How close to check-in can you book a week...??Any hints grabbing a last minute week??

We're trying to get the Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta for this Fri/sat/sun...march 14/15/16.... I have an ongoing search with RCI but was told by someone at RCI yesterday that the search is pretty much "defunct" this close to the check in date. We had a 2bdr come up for friday checkin but we weren't thinking and turned it down! Now we need it back...!!!! Any thoughts?? dave
