Don't feel like you are missing out because Marriott says they won't rent out your week for you. In the US, they make you an upfront offer and the only ones that even approach MF's are the ones that you could easily rent for 150-200% of your MF's- like a platinum ocean front Hawaii or SC week. I inquired about a platinum Orlando week that has a MF's of $1400 and the offer if they took my week was $800. Years and years ago they took 30 then 40% commission but gave you the actual rental income for your reservation after the commission once the rental was complete. I believe in Europe they still may do it that way. In the US they make an offer based on your resort, season and view and if you already have a reservation they make you cancel it. The good thing is it doesn't matter if it actually rents or not. The bad thing is they really low ball on the offer so they typically only need to rent two nights or so of your week and they have made back what they paid the owner.
