Re: Difference in Marriott Ocean Club and Marriott Ocean Club - Lahaina Villas (by Alan D.):

The Marriott Ocean Club has 2 different properties on Kaanapali - the old hotel that's been converted to timeshares (referred to as Molokai Maui Lanai Towers) and the two newer purpose-built Lahaina/Napili Towers that flank the old ex-hotel. The big difference is that in the Lahaina/Napili Towers, you have dishwashers, ovens, full refrigerator/freezers, washer/dryers, etc. in the rooms. The old Tower didn't have the right plumbing and so only a microwave and refrigerator is available. We used to own a 2 bedroom oceanfront in the old Tower and the views were spectacular (closer to the beach) but my wife wanted a washer/dryer so we moved to Napili Towers. If you are looking for a 1 bedroom and need a full kitchen, the Napili/Lahaina Towers are for you. If cooking in isn't a big deal (or you can grille to your heart's content at the many grilles they have on the grounds), you get a better deal at the older Tower. The new towers also have their own pools and grille area and there seem to less children (the old Tower has the bigger pool with an area for young kids). However, you can use all the pools on the grounds (as long as you're down early and "reserve" your spot). You can't lose though -- the Marriott has the best spot on Kaanapali Beach. Enjoy your vacation. Aloha.
