We just purchased a 1 bedroom gardenview resale and are not sure we will be able to use it in 2008. What are the advantages, disadvantages, hassles and costs involved in banking the week and using 2 weeks the following year? Do you think it is possible to get 2 units for the same date and take another family with us in 2009?

As a resale buyer can you bank with Marriott or must it be via, say, Interval International ?

Take a look at www.tug2.net as well

Sorry I can't help more.

Hi Tom,

I'm not sure I can answer all of your questions but please check out RedWeek's exchange program at http://www.redweek.com/exchange/. You might post your questions on the main forums (click on Forms tab) then Timeshare Exchanges. Others owners can share their experiences with you and can maybe help with your decision.

Thanks, Marty

Paul, owners can bank their weeks with RedWeek.com if their week isn't already banked with another exchange company. Some timeshares are affiliated with either RCI or II but that doesn't mean you necessarily have to bank your week with them.

Thanks, Marty

On a resale can you use your week at another state or country or does it have to be banked for Maui?

The odds of ever getting two weeks together at your resort are next to zero. The only way that this could happen would be if someone were to bank their current year's week to coincide with the exact week you need to extend your one week trip to a two week trip. For example, let's say that you have your current week booked for 8/1/09 to 8/8 and you want to exchange the week you have banked so that you can extend your vacation to two weeks. That means that interval (or whatever club you belong to) would have to offer either the week before or the week after those days you already have booked. For that to happen, someone else who has a timeshare at your resort would have to bank one of those weeks -- something that is not likely to happen!! While this process might work out at other resorts, it is never going to happen in Hawaii -- the resorts are just too popular, and no one banks their weeks. You have been deceived. The only likelihood of your ever doing multiple weeks at your resort is if you are traveling at a time when no one else does! If that is the case, you are fortunate. For those of us tied to the summer months, we will never get the Hawaiian vacation we have hoped for -- at least not at our timeshare!! Good luck, Kim
