Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club

Ko Olina Penthouse unit

We are considering using points to stay in the penthouse unit. Has anyone ever stayed in it or seen this unit? is there a penthouse in each bldg? Is the PH the same sq footage as a regular 2 BDR? We are trying to decide if it is worth the extra points

Are you using DC points or MR points, as that may make a difference in your decision regarding room priority by MKO? The MKO penthouses are the same floor plan as all other units, except that they have higher ceilings and there are no units above them (as the buildings are stair-stepped, not all penthouse units are on the highest floor). There are penthouse units in each of the 3 buildings. Higher floors are reserved for Legacy MKO owners, then DC points owners, then Marriott exchangers, and on down the line to revenue stays. If you are using MR points, then you may want to pay the extra for the penthouse so that you don't get a palm tree or parking lot view. Regardless of your room, Ko Olina Beach Club is beautiful (pools, grounds, etc.). Good luck.

Thank you so much for the response. I now see that we could be disappointed to be in a PH but many floors below a PH in another higher bldg. Does DC stand for destination Club? We are using points from the new Marriott vacation club where week owners now can use or trade their unit or convert to points. This is probably DC points. thanks again.

Destination Club (DC) points will get you higher in the pecking order for a better view if you do not reserve a penthouse. If you go the Penthouse route, you will have a great view (MV or OV) and no one above you, even if you are on floor 11 or 12, rather than the highest floor, say 13 for example. If you look at a picture of the buildings, you can see the stair-stepping that I was referring to. We spent very little time actually on the balcony, but it is nice to be able to see over the trees (floors 6 and above). Would like to be there right now, even if my view was the parking deck :)

We are in a 2 BD Unit, Ocean View, on the 10th floor of the Nai'a building (bldg 3-newest). It has a great view of the property and 2 of the lagoons. We've stayed on the 7th Floor of the Manoa building (bldg 2). We had a nice ocean view, but a lot of tree tops in the way. Our favorite building is Nai'a. We like to sleep with the sliding doors open at night and it is wonderful to hear the sounds of the waves and the water features in the pool area. It is a wonderful property and we love to return whenever we can .... annually if possible.

The Penthouse basically gets you the best view and a cathedral type ceiling as it is only on the top floors of a section of the building. That is not saying it is on the highest floor. It means no one is above you and the roof is raised for a more airy room. The Penthouses are Hard to get as there are only about 9 Ocean views and 1 Mountain view penthouses in the original buildings.. I don't know how many they added with the new building which is a little further away from the main courtyard area. We own a week in a penthouse so normally that is where we do stay and have never had a bad one.
