GET and TAT taxes in Hawaii

May 24, 2016

When I list a rental amount do I have to include the application General Excise Tax and Transient Accommodation Tax in the listed rental amount?

Chuck -

You can either include the taxes in the listed rental amount, or add that information in the Details section of your posting. The important thing is that your renter knows from the beginning the exact amount they will be spending to rent your week so they don't have any "surprises."

How are these taxes paid to the state. Does Marriott add these to the final statement when one checks out? I know there are room taxes added to my bill. Are these taxes in addition to these charges?

First you have to get a license ($25 total) and then you file two forms G49 and TA-2 and have to pay the State of Hawaii 13.5% (9.5% for the TAT and 4% for the GET). TAT -Transient Accommodation Tax GET- General Excise Tax
