We like the Riviera Maya area in Mexico, but there is only one hotel there that does not require AI. And this one has 1 in 4! (I'm sure their very aggressive sales staff craves new bodies each year.) AI just doesn't suit our travel style and is very expensive. (What if we plan to be off the resort frequently and when present we don't want to include, for example, calculated costs for alcohol we won't consume.) Our eventual solution has worked very well: We rent a lock-off from an owner thru Redweek rental postings! No AI to deal with and we have not encountered any 1 in 4. There are usually some offerings at various resorts in studios or one bedrooms which suit us and owners are happy to offer reasonable prices. This tends to solve our problems temporarily but I feel we should not be stopped from using our timeshare trading power freely, and should not be forced into these alternative solutions because of AI or 1 in 4 pervasive situations at the Mexican resorts.
