We can't use our two HGVC timeshares as much as we'd like because we've gotten old. Can you imagine that happens! So this year we decided to rent out half our points (Breckenridge) with RedWeek. We ended up renting for less than we wanted because we (a) either didn't advertise it for rent soon enough or (b) asked too much money to begin with. Still, we were satisfied because it nearly paid for our annual dues and we still have points to use (or rent out) next year. Once it was rented, we then changed the reservation to the Renters name with HGVC Breckenridge...plus a $50 fee to do so. RedWeek will prompt you what to do if you use their services.

I think your idea of intending to rent through Redweek is good with a backup plan for you to go.
