Update on my message of yesterday - I think my speculation was wrong.

I talked to Marriott today and they advise that the owned week inventory is maintained separately for reservation purposes. Thus, it does not appear that point owners are able to encroach on the reservation prospects of week owner inventory. This changes, however, if a week is exchanged for Vacation Club points as the week then becomes available to point users. This sounds fair to me.
