Hi Marty I appreciate your posting as I just reserved a Condo in Waikiki Hawaii from Americap after being contacted on phone, and paid up front $800. I received a contract in the mail from Americap. My travel dates are April 13-20, 2008 I will keep you all posted. Terry

Hi Jane,

I have been having nothing but nighmares over this whole ordeal. It took Chis about 4 hours to have the $800 removed from my checking acct, after calling and emailing I finally received a contract for a 2bdrm @ Celebrity Resort Waikiki. The largest unit Celebrity has in Waikiki is a 1bdrm majority are studios hmm.

I then needed to cancel do to a job move and contacted Chris Wood over 5 weeks ago. He mentioned as in contract I'd recieve less 10% $720. Not back in my checking but a check mailed to me directly. I have called and talked to him personally on several occations infact Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday of this week after my mail man left. Chris said accounting mailed me a check over a week ago?

Chris said yesterday he would go to accounting department today and see what's going on. He also mentioned that he has not had as much trouble with a cancelation refund as he has mine.

Chris Wood said he would call me today, so we will see.

I am beginning to believe in that quote "The Check Is In The Mail"

I do feel for you that are planning a wonderful vacation and have your Air portion booked. I hope you have a place to stay or a back up plan for your accomidations.

Hi Marty what are my options with Americap or Agent Chris Wood??? The refund for cancel of $720 has not been sent to me as promised it's been several weeks. I call this guy every day and I'll I hear is it was sent on such and such a date. I'll check with our accounting department and get back to you. I've not had so many problems with a refund in my life "Quoted by Chris Wood".

Thanks Terry

Hi Terry,

I really don't know what your options are, Terry. Maybe small claims court?? I have emailed Chris letting him know that his RedWeek.com account has been suspended until you receive your check. That's about all we can do from our end since an escrow company wasn't used in the rental transaction.

I hope it's just a matter of a paperwork problem or the check is actually lost in the mail. But in either case you need to receive your check before he can contact anyone else on our website.

Thanks, Marty

FYI, I did get a contract in the mail from Americap. I sent it in to Americap today. We'll see if I get the paperwork from Marriot Waihoa as promised.

I'm not too worried since in the end this transaction is on my Amex and I'll dispute which shouldn't be hard.

Redweek, while I like the concept of this site I hope you can hold member buyers and sellers to better standards similar to an eBAY. Maybe these so-called Agents should be banned from the site?

mikef72 offers, quoted only in pertinent part:

You are either joking or perhaps just woefully uninformed in making this particular statement.

eBay is ABSOLUTELY CHOCK FULL of deceiving, thieving so-called "PostCard Companies" reselling timeshares. By some claimed (not by me) estimates, more than 90% of all timeshare listings on eBay are actually listed by these "PostCard Companies", who have basically STOLEN the timeshare in the first place from people who actually PAID the PostCard company several thousand dollars to take the timeshare off their hands.

This site (RedWeek), on the other hand, consists primarily of honest, everyday users, renters and owners. There are a few bad apples in any barrel --- but far fewer here than elsewhere (and far fewer than eBay, to be sure) when it comes to timeshares.

Whether by willful intent or innocent ignorance, you insult this site, its owners and its members by suggesting that it has lower "standards" than the bottom dwelling timeshare thieves / sellers on eBay.

For the record, I do NOT represent or speak for RedWeek, but I will nonetheless respectfully suggest that you simply don't know what you're talking about.

Ditto what Ken said, particularly the above paragraph.

Mike, you're comparing apples to oranges. Ebay is an AUCTION SITE. Redweek is a TIMESHARE AD SITE for buyers, sellers, renters and exchangers. How can you compare Redweek to Ebay ... there's no comparison.

Marty has gone out of his way to rectify some of the grievances here for Redweek's members. He really doesn't have to go that extra mile, but he does it anyway.

Well apparently I struck a nerve here.

I agree that Marty and Redweek have gone a long way to deal with this incident as I would hope someone at Redweek would. I also agree EBay is full of dishonest buyers and selllers. What I do like about eBay is the ability to rate members so you have a fighting chance at knowing their reputation. In the end it really doesn't matter if you're a personal ad site or an auction site. It boils down to a transaction between a buyer and seller so in many ways Redweek and eBay are similar.

It appears I'm not the only person who has issues with this Americap and would have liked to know their customer service rating prior.

I joined ,and pay money, to have access to reputable rental listings so I hope my suggestion of improving the member experience would be met with more constructive discussion.

You're right, Mike. It appears that you are one (of a total of two) people reporting a problem with ONE obscure commercial entity. That's unfortunate and I sincerely hope that you successfully resolve it --- and I too hope that Americap is booted and banned from this site. That said, there are still thousands of successful transactions successfully completed among honest people on RedWeek with nary a snag. >>I joined ,and pay money, to have access to reputable rental listings so I hope my suggestion of improving the member experience would be met with more constructive discussion.<< =====================================

Mike, I took (and I still take) exception to the comparative reference in your initial comment on eBay "standards" (a position modified a bit in your subsequent posting). Criticism and disagreement can (and DO) also constitute "constructive discussion". We don't all have to agree in order to learn and benefit from one another.

If the contract stated the wrong number of bedrooms and you cancelled the contract due to that fact, why would the company hold 10% of your refund.

Unless I've misunderstood your post, it's not your fault their contract was in error concerning the number of bedrooms. I would demand the ENTIRE refund amount. It was their mistake, not yours.

Thanks,

RedWeek has no "search" function by which to easily find prior posts, but I seem to recall posts in recent months in which people claimed to have successfully rented weeks via Americap. I further recall that the discussions were in context with other posts involving a man named Preston Green (who is NOT associated with Americap, but with some other similar business with which some folks were clearly less than happy). Of couse, a skeptic could always say that favorable posts can be "shills" (posts from family members, employees, friends, etc.) I don't claim to know. I DO hope that Americap gets booted and banned from RedWeek, so that discussions such as these will become unnecessary and no longer exist on this site at all......

I'll keep people posted on if I get my confirmations from Marriot. Another resource that would be helpful for other people looking to do business with Americap Int. is http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business/CompanyReportPage_Expository.aspx?CompanyID=40000537

Like I mentioned earlier I had such a good experience with my first Redweek transaction last year, Chris Wood is a pleasant guy to talk to, and... well I'm just going to have sweat it out in hopes that Americap comes through for me. They claimed it would be "a couple weeks" before I get my confirmation.

Searching forums would be a good feature. I found this thread through Google.

I agree that Redweek's forums are definitely in need of a good search feature. They have promised to work on that in the future.

The reason a search feature is desperately needed as so much good information piles up with no way to retrieve it and us regular posters find ourselves repeating information time and time again.

About all we can do is suspend the membership until these issues have been corrected. I've called Chris Wood several times and have emailed him. Our hope is that the company is very much legitimate and there are many that have had successful transactions with Americap International Corp. but that we are only seeing a few of the complaints which basically happen in any business.

As far as the search feature, I know that's in development but will check on the status.

BTW I'm a she not a he. :-)

Hey Marty - First I'd like to thank you for all the support with Redweek.

Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my confirmation with them. I got a contract from Americap only after you called them - it arrived the last week of July. I returned it and confirmed with Chris that he had it. He said he would send it on to the seller, who would send me a gift certificate and I should see it in two weeks. I haven't seen anything yet, and I email Chris weekly. Chris had told me once that his typical transactions take 60 days and that most people don't mind because their travel plans were far in advance. I reminded him that he had our money right off the bat and we couldn't confirm that he was legitimate until we had confirmed the gift certificate with the resort.

As an FYI, the Better Business Bureau shows them as being in business since February, which either means they are a brand new company and therefore possibly inefficient, or they were a company prior and just switched over in February (a common thing for bad companies). I called the number on the BBB, which brought me to Jerry's home number (Chris's brother and president). He was surprised I had his home number - something that may come in handy if anyone feels like calling Jerry at home!

Please don't reinstate Americap until I get my gift certificate. I would also suggest that you not reinstate them until Mike and anyone else have their gift certificate, since it doesn't appear Americap has actually done any services without you prompting them to date. Perhaps you could suggest to Americap that they can only come back on Redweek if they agree to use escrow prior to getting the money since it would relieve you of having to chase them for every transaction?

thanks again for your help - LIsa

I found this thread http://www.redweek.com/forums/messages?thread_id=12181 You can find certain forum topics on a Google search. I put in "Americapint.com redweek.com" and this thread came up. I know this isn't nearly as good as having a search feature on our forums but that is something we are working on.

Thanks, Marty
