Timeshare Companies

Has anyone dealt with Americap International Corp.?

Sep 07, 2007

I was able to get a hold of Chris at 888-834-7464. I've talked to him recently.

Any ideas as to how I can make contact with either Woods or the company to get our money returned?

Typical of the lies from upfront fee resale companies.

Hi Carla

I have been trying to get my money back for almost 2 months on a timeshare I needed to cancel. Please don't hold your breath Carla with this company. When which it's rare that someone does answer the phone you will be told some lame excuse. The guy who I typically talk to Chris Wood @ Americap Int, sounds like a nice guy each time almost honest but after time that only goes so far.

I'm not sure how much your out a few that have posted comments on Redweek are out a few thousand dollars with Americap. My original amount was $800 less 10% for cancelling so end amount $720.00. We were using flight miles for air portion, so I was able to get all flight miles back and just out $50 on airline tix.

I feel bad for the people on here that have booked in hopes of a beautiful vacation. I sure hope they have a place to stay or a back up plan once arriving at destination. Good Luck To You Carla!!!!!!!!! Terry Halverson

These people are very good at what they do in convincing you to separate yourself from your money and hand it over to them. They are well versed in good acting skills like many salespeople in the entire timeshare industry.

I have filed a billing dispute with Americap and reported them to Better Business Bureau. Chris knew I would do this if he didn't provide my confirmation or a refund by a date he chose. The credit card company has refunded me my money. I believe it is now up to them to work with Chris, but as of now, I believe I am no longer dealing with him.

The Better Business Bureau is a well intentioned but otherwise impotent and powerless entity, capable of doing nothing more than just "keeping track" of filed consumer complaints. "Keeping track" doesn't solve a thing and also doesn't scare a company one bit. All a company has to do is change its name to take on a new identity and thereby acquire a completely "clean slate". BBB does serve to let people know that complaints exist, but to be blunt it's capable of doing nothing more than that. Also, I tend to believe most folks only check BBB complaint history AFTER they experience a problem.

I do hope that you would make the effort to notify the Attorney General's Office in Florida of your experience, and do so in writing. Specific address info for the AG office appears in other RedWeek forum posts. The new RedWeek "search" function is primitive and basic, but it may be able to retrieve the posts for you which contain that address info. Complaints lodged with the people who actually have the power and the legal authority to deal with these parasites are more effective than complaints to the completely powerless BBB. Just a suggestion.....

Have to agree with Ken with respect to the BBB. They really are powerless and can only track complaints. They have no authority to "make" a company do anything including the return of your money. And often once the company responds to a complaint (whether the complainer is satisfied or not) and the person handling the complaint deems the response "appropriate", that particular complaint is resported as "resolved" or no longer reported on their record. So threatening to report a company to the BBB has little consequences to the company. Also, something to note - being a "member" of the BBB means absolutely nothing in terms of whether or not this company is legit or not. I know these things as I worked at the BBB; and basically, if you can 'cut them a cheque' - you are in, you are a member. Any kind of extensive history or background checks are usually done AFTER they are members when the complaints start rolling in. Not much, if anything, is done BEFORE they are signed up except, of course, to cash their cheque and mark off another "sale" and the company is off to the races as a "member". My friend worked in the sales dept. and it was obvious it was all about sales, getting your numbers up and signing companies up - regardless of "who" that company is. Often it would only be after numerous complaints started coming in would the manager or whomever start actually investigating who we were dealing with only to find the company is a scam. Meantime, they have already been reported as a "member in good standing" for a few months and have scammed countless people. In short, as long as you have the money to pay their membership fee, there is not much else in terms of requirements to be a member. Pathetic really. I suppose offices vary from state to state, city to city in terms of just how much effort they put into researching who they sign up; but bottom line, being a "member" of the BBB is absolutely not indicative of what type of company you are dealing with; and threatening to report a company to the BBB does not exactly make the company shake in their boots either...The BBB is a joke....just my humble opinion.

Now I have been dupped! Chris Wood has been telling me that the "party" i have purchased time share from has not turned in the "gifting Letter" They took my money quickly and took a long time to send me a silly receipt and now wait wait wait for this "gift letter". I am just one for doing this in a timely manner and when it takes sooooo long it does not look good for them. My philosophy has been hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I hope I am not out $1500.00. Any feed back would be cool.

I'm a little confused ... did you supposedly buy a timeshare or were you renting from one of their clients? Also, I don't understand the term 'gifting letter'. Please explain what this means.

Adriana, I do not believe anyone who has posted on this thread has actually received what they have paid for. In addition, those who are expecting refunds have not received them. I have filed a billing dispute so my credit card is working to get the money back. If you were to actually receive your gifting letter, you would be the first of the five of us on this thread.

No have not received the giftting letter....I bought someones week at the mayan for the holidays and they are suppose to gift it over to me and that has not happenend. Chris had kept telling me that of course they will do it they want your money for the week. But nothing.

I still have not receive my confirmation but I am waiting it out. I was told 30 days which will be in about a week or so. I figure it's not a big deal since I paid with a credit card and will simply dispute what will clearly be a fraudulent transaction. I can't imagine how Americap could walk away with any money from me unless they are working against some credit card loophole I'm not aware of. I guess that's why I'm continuing to be optimistic. Please feel free to let me know if you think there is a reason I should be immediately concerned.

Mike: My only observation and recommendation would be to make very sure that you don't miss the time "window" on disputing your credit card charge, whatever that window may be with your particular card issuer. I would also remind you that the credit card dispute must be filed in writing, with supporting facts and information (and documentation, as available). A phone call simply does NOT cut it as far as a validly filed dispute. Good luck.

Since no one here has been given what they were promised from this company, I would CALL the Attorney General in the state where this company is located and file a formal complaint. If you all work together then surely this company will be shut down or be forced to back their promises and refunds to you.

I agree with jayjay Still waiting here for my $720 from Americap International Corp. I have been in contact with Chris Wood and this is the 2nd time my check has been lost in "The Mail". He said to contact him tomorrow if I have not seen it. I've been 2 months trying to get my money back.

I'm begining to think I need to write this off as lesson learned. Terry

terry, please don't just write this off as a lesson learned. That's what these companies want you to do. $720 is a lot of money and I would tell the person you are dealing with that you are getting in touch with the attorney general ASAP.

Contacting the Attorney General's office is a good idea. Doing so by phone, however, is a waste of your time and theirs. They will neither entertain nor process any "telephone" complaints from any person at any time. Complaints must be filed in writing, clealry outlining the facts and dates and known names and addresses and providing, as available, any and all available and pertinent documentation. A mere telephone call will be summarily ignored -- except perhaps to provide you with the mailing address to which to properly submit your written, signed complaint.

Hi Marilyn,

Wow, that's a lot of money! Did this John Taylor contact you through RedWeek.com? If so, do you remember happen to remember the username on that email or possibly their email address so I can find their account?

Thanks, Marty

Hi Marty, I was posted on Red Week wish list #W27960 on June 26, 2007wanting the first 2 weeks of Feburary in Cabo, Mexico at the Pueblo Bonito Rose. I was emailed by Americap International gateway@linkpt.net on June 27, 2007 from Jerry Wood jerry@americapint.com. He saw my ad on Red Week and emailed me saying he had several weeks for rent. It also gave their phone # of 888-834-7464 or email at customerservice@americapint.com. I thought this was all through Red Week, so I sent him $1500.00 and received a rental agreement which I received on 6/27/07. Contract #239150. Since then they haven't sent me a confirmation that I received these 2 week. I have made numerous phone calls to no avail. Would you please check into this for me? Thank you, Alvin Gatzemeier Since then
