If you didn't pay by credit card you might as well say good-bye to your money. We paid by credit card and disputed it and we are suppose to get it back by the end of the week. Ours was for 2 weeks and $2,000. Write to the Attorney General and the Internet Crime Report Center. You can find the web page near the top of this page. These people still haven't stopped scamming people. Good Luck. Jane
I finally rec'd my $800 back from my credit card co. I contacted them 56 days after being screwed by Americap and Chris Wood. Thanks to everyone who posted information on this forum. If you have paid these scammers with a credit card, talk to someone in disputes personally and followup. good luck

I have a rental contract with Americap for 2 weeks at the Aruba Beach Club in January 2008, but as of this date (11/24/08) have not received any documentation from them. I sent an e-mail this week (no response) and called them yesterday 11/23/08 and got an answering machine. They responded to an ad I placed on RedWeek earlier this year and I paid the full amount for this rental in May (charged to my credit card). I would appreciate it if anyone who has dealt with this company before would respond to my inquiry

Thanks,

Dennis

Dennis: This company has been proven fraudulent by anyone that I know of that has dealt with them. I have just received a credit on my credit card by disputing the charge. We had paid $2,000 for a 2 week stay in Florida with this scam artist Chris Wood who runs Americap International. My first suggestion would be to report him to the Attorney General of Florida and then I would call my credit card company and ask them how I would dispute the charges. Make sure you keep a record of when you booked with him and every conversation after. If you read all the "Redweek Forum Alerts" concerning Chris Wood and Americap that he is a real scam artist. Don't feel bad, many people have been suckered by this individual. Be glad you paid by credit card or else your money would be gone. Hopefully you will get it back from your credit card company as many of us have already. Let us know what happens. Good Luck! Jane

You also need to file a complaint with the Florida Attorney General's office. You can search top right of this page for the address.

Hi Mari,

Back when I wrote that message on Jul 14, 2007 there weren't any complaints for Chris Wood. Then if you will read further it was determined that he and his company scammed a lot of people by replying to RedWishes on our website. They were shut down but not a lot more we can do if an escrow company wasn't used in your transaction.

There are a few postings that might work for you - Marriott's Maui Ocean Club for the dates Mar 16, 2008 - Mar 23, 2008 also The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas for Mar 16, 2008 - Mar 23, 2008.

I sure hope you find something.

Marty

As one of the original posters on this thread I'll give an update.

I never rec'd my reservation made back in August 07. Surprise, Surprise. Even at the time it sounded to good to be true but I went and did it anyway :(. I was lucky because I used a credit card. If you used a credit card I would dispute the charge as a "Goods not received" complaint.

Regarding Redweek. I am and continue to be a Redweek subscriber/buyer. Like most places there are bad apples that ruin it for everyone. My first rental with Redweek was for Orlando in 06. It went very well. I rented directly from the owner and used paypal credit card.

My advice, if you post a "RedWish" and get contacted by anyone other than an individual owner you should be skeptical. I'm sure others would disagree and there are probably legitimate renting companies out there. I just know for me I think of this as a place where owners and renters/buyers can get together. Middleman companies raise a skeptical eyebrow.

Hi Kimberly

Well it's been 8 months and nothing. I unfortunately paid with a check $800 down the tubes. However I did not have airline tickets purchased so am thankful of that. Terry

Hi Kimberly, This is a scam operation. I don't know how they stay in business. In my case, I booked a week in Aruba for January 2008 in May of 2007 and when I did not receive any documentation from them, I learned from this forum how this company is a bogus operation. Fortunately for me, I recovered the full amount ($1500) from my credit card MC company and was able to book another 2 weeks from a private owner. My credit card company Chase was very cooperative in this regard and I supplied them with all correspondence I had with Americap including the phony contract they sent me and Chase credited my account in about 10 days. I have booked many timeshare rentals over the years through REDWEEK and other sites and have also dealt directly with the owners and never had a problem prior to this event.

If everyone printed out all the scams in this thead and mailed them to the Attorney General's office in the state where Americap International is located or send them to the media, then perhaps something will be done about this bogus operation. The WORST thing those that have been scammed by this company to do is NOTHING. It seems more and more victims are piling up.

A little macabre humor concerning more victims piling up (my post above) .... remember that guy in Georgia that was supposed to cremate bodies for several funeral homes but he was stacking the bodies up and never cremating them but getting paid to do so ? :o). The company mentioned in this thread reminded me of that supposed cremator.
