I did my own experiment. In June I put in one of my weeks for evalutation and it was given 1700+ points. Last night I did that same week and was given 1300+ Points.

Could it be becauase it was an almost 3 month difference when you would be depositing? I believe the earlier you deposit, the more points you get.

I bet your right that it lost some points over 3 months. Maybe though some of it was it was givin more points in the very beginning of the program to get depostors which is okay. This unit is week 8 Feb 24 to March 2 in the Pocono Mountains PA

That was indeed the intention of the program from the beginning. “Deposit early and get more points.”

I too just requested a quote for a week (a week I deposited with RedWeek in mid June). My week was for March 15-22, 2008.

Well, guess what? It was not 300 points less; it was actually 11 points more! I asked Kylie to explain how this could be. She said she checked with the people who actually do the valuations and was told that there was virtually NO difference between depositing now or back in June.

The fact that you were offered 300 points less, sort of blows Kylie’s comments out of the water. Now, trust is becoming an issue.

Like I said two weeks ago, I still feel penalized for depositing early with RedWeek.

Marty, can you explain this???

One thing I'm finding very funny is we can't add LOL. It's a 400 point difference 1300+-1700+=400 :0) I'll have my 5th grader check my math next time. :0)

Terry, we're sorry we can't get into the specifics of how the valuations are calculated. You were a very early depositor. We are adjusting our points valuation system every day. Check-in date does have a lot to do with most valuations, but some resorts were over or under-valued to begin with... and have been adjusted.

There are Hawaii weeks for 2007 that are in a more valuable location than your resort... but the points are lower because they're for 2007.

Thanks, Marty

Guess the Redweek folks are learning the hard way that being an exchange company is not easy! How "transparent" can one be when dealing with a statistical nightmare! MD

I think any new timeshare exchange program needs tweaking. At least Reedweek is trying and they are an alternative to the 2 thousand pound gorillas (RCI/II).

Marty,

Would it be reasonable to suppose that Redweek's valuations are calculated pretty much like RCI's, insofar and you have the equivalent information: (Direct quote from RCI site follows)

RCI Weeks Trading Power is based on:

4.1 The demand, supply, classification grouping, and utilization of the Deposited Vacation Time 4.2 The demand, supply, classification grouping, utilization of the Affiliated Resort and geographic region associated with the Deposited Vacation Time. 4.3 The seasonal designation of the Deposited Vacation Time. 4.4 The size and type of the unit Deposited (i.e., number of bedrooms, kitchen type and Maximum/Private Occupancy of the physical unit). 4.5 The Comment Card Scores of the Deposited Vacation Time. 4.6 The date of Deposit and the start date of the Deposited Vacation Time.

NOTE: RCI Weeks Exchange Program use patterns impact a Member's Trading Power. In addition, Demand, supply, seasonal designation, utilization and Comment Card Scores may change over time and also impact Trading Power. RCI Comment Cards are solicited by RCI from Members as a means to gather information on each Affiliated Resort participating in the RCI Weeks Exchange Program. The consumer-driven Comment Card Scores are updated monthly. Trading Power may vary depending on when the Deposit is made and the start date of the Vacation Time. Certain criteria upon which Trading Power is established, as outlined above, are waived for Members requesting Internal Exchanges within their Home Resort or Home Group. In addition, due to technical limitations, the Trading Power criteria cited above are waived as to requests for exchanges to and from resorts where a computer link has not been established.

(Is it cheating for me to actually quote factual information instead of speculation?) MD

Please understand that we cannot go into specifics. This is proprietary information, and although I would love for you to understand how it works, we have to keep in mind that our competitors would also love to understand it.

I really like the idea but I was disappointed in the points assigned for my February school vacation efficiency unit at Marriott's Ocean Pointe in Palm Beach Shores. I have always been able to exchange this unit for a summer unit through Interval International. When I looked at the points required for what few units were available, I would have had to pay double my points just to get into a lower tier facility. It may have been a 1 bedroom but realistically, it wasn't a true match up. I ended up getting a 1 bedroom with full kitchen in a 5 star (Interval's) resort in Williamsburg through Interval. This could be one of the reasons why the exchange program is not taking off as quickly as hoped. Value pulled for some of these units are not comparable.

Hi Christine,

The valuations varying based on resort and seasonality factors, the amount of time to check-in at the point the user deposited, and several other things. If you feel there was an unjustice, please send an e-mail to our support address (support@redweek.com).

We appreciate the feedback.

Feedback to RedWeek, just FYI. I and no doubt many others are leaning back towards rental due to the lack of deposits.

I own 2 prime Westin Maui weeks and want to go to Harborside but there is nothing exc. provisional listings on the Harborside page and most of them are during school year / hurricane / rainy season, so I am thinking maybe I should just rent my week(s) and use the cash to (try to) go to Atlantis instead.

I know I am "part of the problem" here, because I haven't deposited my units either, but since I can't even see online how many points I would *need* to go to Harborside for President's Day or Spring Break, I don't feel comfortable dropping my [gorgeous] unit(s) into the ether. What if I am a few thousand points short or for some reason have to use most or all of both my weeks to get one week there???

Marty -- is there any way to find out what the approximate points requirement would be in Harborside for my preferred weeks to sleep 6?

Thanks.

For the sake of full transparency - open and honest information is always the best policy-- it seems like RW should post the number of points offered to the holder of a provisional week -- even though there is no guarantee that the week will in fact be available for exchange at that number of points, or, that the week will ever in fact be offered for exchange. The information will give users and potential users an idea of what it might cost IF it becomes available. Such advance knowledge could encourage people to go ahead and deposit. If they see many provisional weeks and they have some idea that their week is worth enough to get there then potential depositers will go ahead and take the gamble that one of those weeks will perhaps become open.

Many of the requests for valuation -- whether they check the box to make a week provisional or not-- arise because people want to know how many points it takes to get to a particular resort or vacation spot. Until they know that it is hard to justify depositing a week.

Another option would be for RW to post a points guide. The guide would show all the resorts--whether available for trade or not-- and the points associated with them by time period. The bonuses for early deposit and what that means should also be posted for each resort. This guide would level the playing feld and would clarify many of the questions being raised by users and potential users alike.

Hi Janet,

You could submit a valuation and get some kind of idea what the points would be. It would be strictly a guide. https://www.redweek.com/exchange/

We are working to make our system more functional. Our goal is to bring in more exchanges rather than the provisionals so then the point values would obviously be out there for all to view.

Thanks, Marty

============ Marty, you replied: "The valuations varying based on resort and seasonality factors, the amount of time to check-in at the point the user deposited...".

If I deposit a provisional week, will the value of my week go down as I approach my own week’s check-in date? For example, RedWeek tells me today that my July 2008 week is worth 1200 points and I do a provisional deposit for Europe in July, 2008. If my request is not honored until June of 2008 will my provisional deposit still be worth the 1200?

Hi,

If you post your week provisionally, the valuation offer you receive will STILL expire within the same 7 days. If you later want to deposit that week, you would need to submit a new valuation request, get a new offer (may very well be a lower points value than you received previously), and then make the deposit. That's why we highly recommend that owners deposit their week rather than add as provisional so that you are most likely getting a higher point value then if you wait.

Thanks, Marty

Hi Anise,

Currently, we don't have any exchanges available for the Harborside Resort at Atlantis but you can sign up to receive updates when exhanges are added. To find out how many points your timeshares are worth please go to this link http://www.redweek.com/exchange/.
