renting Wyndham points
Hello, I have Wyndham points that will expire at the end of this year (2011). I have the option of depositing them with RCI and getting a week or two with them, but I was thinking that I would try to rent them instead. Is it possible to rent points on Redweek? If so, what do they normally go for? Thank you.

Wyndham has overtly and specifically prohibited the transfer of Wyndham points from one Wyndham owner to another (...even for FREE) since around March, 2009. Renting out your points is simply not an avaiable option anymore --- not at ANY price. Anyone who needs or wants to temporarily acquire additional points (in order to complete a reservation, for example) must now acquire those points directly (and only) from Wyndham, at a cost of $10 per thousand points. An owner can sell off the entire ownership itself, of course, but an owner cannot retain the ownership AND transfer the points (even for FREE) while still retaining the underlying ownership. No can do.
So, in your situation you basically have two choices:
1) Reserve a week somewhere with your Wyndham points and then rent out that reserved week, or...
2) Deposit your points with RCI for later "exchange" (...but be aware that such Wyndham points deposits often don't "exchange" very well, in spite of the fact that Wyndham actually OWNS RCI outright).

Yes, Wyndham allows owners to " credit pool" their points. However, the owner MUST do so BEFORE the "use year" associated with their particular, individual ownership actually begins. Once the "use year" has begun, credit pooling is no longer an available option. Credit pooling points of course does not in any way change or eliminate the obligation to pay the underlying annual fees.
I "credit pooled" Wyndham points on occasion when I owned within Wyndham. The obvious down side is that credit pooled points are only usable at other Wyndham facilities (...nowhere else) and, in addition, must be used within a defined time period (I seem to recall that it was within 2 years, but I could be mistaken on that detail). Once the use year has begun and it's too late to "credit pool", depositing with RCI is then the only remaining option (besides the other option of just reserving a week somehwere and then using or renting out that reserved week).
Hope this helps...
