do benefits of prior owners transfer to new owners

We're interested in purchasing more Wyndham points or Starwood points. Can we get these points by buying a resale "week" (from redweek.com) at a Wyndham affiliate like Pagosa Springs or Christie Lodge and converting that week to wyndham or RCI points (like we do now when we don't use the week) or when we deposit our week at the Sheraton Mountain Vista into Starwood points to use at Sheraton hotels.

Most sales associates tell us that we better watch out for resales because as secondary owners we won't be able to take advantage of those perks. I just wondered if this was another sales pitch for us to purchase their high dollar weeks.
