Newbie Question--Marriott timeshare

Feb 17, 2012

I was thinking of buying two 3-bedroom floating platinum weeks on the ocean front building at Surfwatch. I would buy these because we would want to use them in this building at the Hilton Head Island surfwatch and not use them anywhere else. I have read that it seems to be a bit of a free-for-all reserving through Marriott where all owners of Marriott timeshares everywhere have equal opportunity at every resort. Is this true and if so, do owners who have a floating week in that building in that resort have any priority?

As follow-up if the above answer is that no preference is given, what is the likelihood that I could end up not being able to use both of the weeks in that resort because they have all been reserved?

Thanks. Daniel

I own at the Aruba Ocean Club Platinum 2BR and we are planning to sell it as availability has been been greatly diminished during prime weeks. Marriott controls the inventory. If, for example, 25% of Ocean Club owners choose to exchange their Aruba points or weeks for another property, Marriott has the option to assign all 25% to the most prime weeks like Christmas and school vacations to the points program. This leaves the Ocean Club owners with much less desirable prime time inventory for use. When I expressed concern to a sales manager, he told me that "May is Platinum season too" We just finished paying a very expensive extra common fee to repair our property and have less ability to use it. My advise is to stay away from Marriott.

As a Marriott owner, they will definitely NOT work with you. I would not recommend you pruchase a Marriott property.
