Renting a Timeshare

May 10, 2012

Are there reputable companies to go through in order to rent a timeshare? Is it worth it?

Have you checked with management of your timeshare? Often they have a program. Their fees are usually steep, but it is a no-hassle way to rent.

I've had very good luck with renting through Redweek ads. A lot, of course, depends on the demand for your location/time period. It is more work and you do need to communicate enough with the renter to ensure that you are comfortable with them (you will be liable for any damage that they do). You should get the rent upfront in the form of a check (and with plenty of time to clear). Redweek does have a link to a service that will provide a rental contract and deal with the money. I've never used it, but you might check it out.

You're right. The fees are usually steep - somewhere around 35%. On top of that, there is no guarantee that the management will rent it out. Like you said, " A lot, of course, depends on the demand for your location/time period."
