renting a timeshare
I found a timeshare at the Marriott Aruba to rent. The owner told me that they don't like to use pay pal. Am I okay if I get the contract, sign it and then send them a personal check with the contract? Or should I do something else? Sorry, first time user of redbook.

What is stipulated in the contract .... some people want all the rental fee upfront and the balance 30 days (or whatever) from check-in day.
If the person you talked to seemed sincere and you got a good vibe then I say go for it. The vast majority of owners renting their weeks on Redweek are legitimate, but once in a while you can get a bad apple.
Be sure to get verification that the person you talked to is the actual owner and that they are not renting an exchange as that is against RCI and II exchange company rules.

Thanks. They said that they have contacted Marriott and added me as their "guest" at this time and once the transaction is complete they will send me the Marriott confirmation number. When I asked them for a contract they said "Redweek doesn't do contracts". How should I go about verifying that they are not renting an exchange? They are saying that they actually own other Marriott resorts, but traded for this "highly desirable" location because they knew they were going to rent it out.

No can do .... it's against RCI and II rules and regulations to rent an exchange .... if the exchange company finds out about this they can ban the ad member's membership for life. I'm glad I asked you if they actually owned the week that you're interested in.

Redweek offers a sample rental agreement here (copy and paste url):

so am I understanding you correctly in that I should NOT rent the unit? I guess I'm really confused. So wouldn't this be the case with all people who are renting out a unit? They are renting out a unit that they are not using. Can you please explain the difference in some of these?

If a person owns a deeded week at a resort they can rent it to anyone they chose. If they own points at a resort or a vacation club there are usually restrictions to what they can do about using their unit. Some vacation clubs prohibit owners from renting out their weeks. You have to be careful and do some homework. Some owners try to sidestep the rules by claiming the renter is a guest but if they get caught they can be barred from future use. It's a buyer beware situation. Ask a lot of questions and buying renters insurance might be an option.

You CAN (chance it) rent the unit but the exchanger should be aware that if he/she is caught by the exchange company that you (the renter) can be turned away at check-in and the exchanger banned from the exchange company membership.
If he owned the week outright then he could rent it to whomever he chose, but since it was an exchange that's a no-no with the exchange companies.
This rule is in place to keep people (like him) from exchanging for the most popular resorts, locations and times and then renting out for a profit.

I have several thousand points with Diamond Resort international club, and i would like to rent for places in the United States at most any Resort. Scottsdale villas, Scottsdale Links, the Ridge in Sedona, the Summit in Sedona, Pinetop resorts, Kohls Ranch. ect. How would i rent these resorts using the point system?

Do you mean you own points and would like to rent out suites to someone so that you can recover some of your maintenance fees, or do you mean that you would like to stay at these places?
If you want to rent these out for money, then usually you would use your points to book a week at one of these places then advertise it for rent on a reputable website like here on RedWeek.
If you're wanting to stay at one of these places, then you just book with your points.
