Tax on Rental

I would like to rent a week from an owner of the timeshare.

In addition to the weekly cost, the owner is asking for payment of 11% tax.

In all the other times I have rented, I have never been asked for tax.

Is payment of tax required?

Each resort is different and most do not have a tax. I have heard that the state of Hawaii is now charging a tax on timeshare rentals. I would suggest asking the owner or contacting the resort directly to get a clarification on what the tax is for.

What is the status of use taxes on timeshare rentals in California? I am planning to rent a timeshare interval and I'm trying to find out what taxes I will need to pay in addition to income tax. Thanks.
