Travel Insurance - Timeshare "and" Other Travel Coverage

I have routinely carried travel insurance acquired through Marriott for our timeshares. I have had the current VacationGuard policy for three years. The policies cost me $119 each year and the current cost for 2016 is quoted at $199, a healthy increase.

I have reviewed this coverage with both Marriott and VacationGuard personnel and have come to understand this coverage is quite restrictive. For example: We schedule a stay at Marriott's Custom House in Boston and intend to visit NY City for three days on the way and to visit family for 5 days in North Carolina on the way back. The fact that we take more than the allowed 2 days to travel to Boston on each side of the timeshare week means that our only trip coverage is limited to the "time we are at the Custom House in Boston." Essentially, we have coverage for our maintenance fees and emergencies during the Boston week.

I hope someone at Marriott/TravelGuard reads this and can correct the information I received; or, will consider providing a broader policy to cover the add-on travel exposures many of us have as we use our timeshares. After all, there is travel beyond mere timeshare use.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a more comprehensive insurance policy covering add-ons to timeshare travel?
