MVC Maintenance Fees
I just got off the phone with a representative in the Marriott Vacation Club finance department. She informed me that MVC has offered a way to make payments on maintenance fees throughout the year, something many of us have desired. According to her, we can now pay x amount of dollars into our maintenance fee accounts (I do all online) to be applied to the following year. My fees for 2016 were almost $5000. Although I had estimated and saved for such, it would have been so much easier (for me) to have plunked down $500 per month. Haven't seen any announcement of this, but she did say it just happened. Don't know if I'm offering old news, but thought I'd post, regardless. Needless to say, you all will want to do your own follow up.
Now, about those fees. When I became a member in 2004, I shelled out approx $1500 for two weeks, two bedroom (gold) in Aruba. This year, it was $3500. That isn't even counting my purchase of DC points. Is it me, or does that seem excessive? I'm not too sure if I'm looking at a Board gone rogue or if the cryptic figures in the operating statement are really legit. At this rate, I could be looking at $7000 in 10 years.
Anyone who feels compelled to tell me how I was ripped off and how clever they were, please restrain yourselves from magnum opus commenting. My ADD will kick in. I'm generally pleased with my MVC relationship.
Happy New Year and Happy Travels everyone.

I agree as an owner of 5 weeks. An example, my 3 bedroom Maui now is up to $400+ dollars per night for the week. I can almost rent for that. Plus were told the addition of Starbucks would add approx. a million $$s to the resort. It now appears it went directly to the Marriott/Steve Wyss group and not into the actual operating costs. Have tried to get a friend on the board who is in real estate and business, very savvy but no luck>
