Eliminate Maintenance Fees?????

Jan 14, 2016

Direct quote from a letter from a "Lawyer" the other day:

"If your maintenance fees have increased, you have been issued a special assessment or you are simply not using your timeshare the way you had planned you may qualify for a new service to eliminate future payment of fees. Unfortunately, we cannot work with all timeshares and time is of the essence so please contact me at your earliest convenience to see if your timeshare qualifies for this program."

Anybody have any knowledge of this or another typical scam?

They are all SCAMS !!! The lawyer scam has been going around for quite a while now. There is nothing a lawyer can do for you that you can't do yourself. Contact your home resort and ask if they will take your timeshare back. I got rid of two timeshares in 2011 that way by doing it myself. All I paid was minimal fees to file the paperwork. I dealt directly with the resort so there was no risk. If they do not agree to take it back there is nothing a lawyer can do. Don't be scammed by the phony lawyer claiming they can do something other than take your upfront money. If anyone is foolish enough to try the lawyer scam please come back in here later and let us know how much money you lost to them.

I think that one is actually for a vacation club. You pay them several thousands of dollars, they will transfer (or attempt to) your timeshare out of your name with the offer to continue in a vacation club that gets RCI getaway type inventory. The pitch is you still stay in timeshare condo's you only pay $299-799 when you want to book a week plus a small annual fee and your annual MF are gone. They will usually start with offers for unlimited week in the $20,000 range and will come down to 2-4 weeks you can book per year in the $2000-6000 range possibly depending on what you own and how hard they think it will be to "dispose" of it. The dispose of your timeshare buy giving it to bulk ebay sellers who try to sell it for $1. The travel deals are especially good and there is a chance they won't be able to get rid of your timeshare (ts developer won't allow the transfer because they know the company plans to abandon it if the can't find a taker) so the TS may remain in your name.
