Payment of renting a timeshare

Just wondering if it is normal to be asked to provide a credit card number over the phone to secure a red week timeshare rental in Maui? The owner won't use the escrow service. What is the normal procedure for renting a timeshare directly from the owner? Thanks!

Have you tried agreeing to using Pay Pal?

No I haven't. But that is a great suggestion! I certainly don't feel comfortable giving out my credit card info over the phone!
