Are you sure it wasn't a Wyndham hotel at which you rented a room? There are lots of Wyndham hotels that have nothing to do with Wyndham's timeshare properties. Even it is a Wyndham timeshare property, the "house" can always rent out developer-owned units or weeks anytime they wish.

In any case, what are you concerned about if you rented temporary occupancy of a unit for a price that you were willing to pay? What exactly is it that you are "very worried" about? I guess I don't see or understand any basis for your concern. That being said, stay far away from any "sales presentations" if that particular subject is ever brought up at any time during your stay.

Just about every TS offers rooms to rent, some at lower prices to get new people in to attend the dog and pony show. It also puts more dollars in the coffers at an inflated price to help with expenses. At one of our properties our unit rents to the public for almost 4 times as much per night than I rent it for. If you did reserve with the requirement to attend...........KEEP YOUR WITS ABOUT YOU and don't jump when they dangle the carrot. Rule of thumb is "If their lips are moving they are lying"

You may have to attend a sales presentation as part of your room deal. Let the salesman know that if you were to buy a timeshare you would only purchase a resale.

I think the best way to experience staying in a timeshare without making a life long commitment to maintenance fees is to try renting first.

If you are interested in buying a timeshare, checkout the listings here at RedWeek, eBay, the Timeshare Users Group (TUG), MyResortNetwork, Sumday. Ebay has some diamonds in the rough... I got a beachfront Pompano Beach Unit for $1.00 and a Divi Aruba for $1.00
