Negotiations on rentals

Is it out of line to negotiate the prices? As a past owner of a timeshare I was just looking to rent my week to recoup my maintenance fees.

I wouldn't say it's out of line. Some owners might be happy to recoup something rather than nothing. However, some owners are firm and have no use for hagglers so (assuming you're the renter) don't be surprised if an owner is abrupt with you and tells you where to go if you try to haggle.
