Has anyone been contacted by TRAVEL.COM to buy your timeshare for nearly double of what you paid for it? We were, but deicded not to go forward with the sale thinking it may some kind of scam.

It is a scam. You gave us the top two signs that it is a scam, an unsolicited phone call and offering to sell it or buy it from you for way above market value.

That's an opinion statement, possibly useful.

I think the poster was asking for facts. Can you or anyone help here?

We have also received such an offer, purportedly from Travel.com. We too are suspecting scam. But if it is, it's the best we have yet seen.

It's a scam! They are going to ask for a bogus fee.

Another opinion. Can anyone provide facts relative to Travel.com?

So if you suspect it's a scam, why go ahead with it? As the original poster pointed out, this company is offering to buy for way above market value. No legitimate company is going to contact you out of the blue offering to buy something from you for way above market value.

Well, for starters, there is not the slightest hint yet that we have to put up any money. The moment there is, we are out.

Well that's good that you are cautious like this. But here's what usually happens.

The company calls you and claims that it has found a buyer who's ready to pay you tens of thousands for your unit. Then when you are all excited and not thinking clearly, the person will tell you that first, you have to pay some sort of fee or tax to finalize and legalize the sale and transfer of your unit.

The scammer will probably also emphasize that you, the seller, must pay this fee/tax, but the buyer will reimburse you.
