Contrary to the advice given to you by these shills above, here are some practical ways to get rid of an unwanted timeshare.
Try selling it. You can use practical websites such as here on RedWeek, Timeshare Users Group (aka "TUG"; tug2net.com), E-Bay, or My Resort Network.
If you see that your unit has a resale value of about zero or even less, which describes about 90% of the units out there, then try giving it away. Again, use the previously mentioned website. TUG also has a section on tugbbs.com that lets owners advertise for free that they want to give their units away.
Try contacting your resort's Homeowners' Association and ask if they will take your unit back. They might charge you a transfer fee and maybe even the nest year's maintenance fee. But you can tell them that, in no uncertain terms, you will not be paying any more maintenance fees (Except for maybe the one I just mentioned) so it would be best for everyone involved for the HOA to take the unit back amicably.
If all these methods fail, then your final option would be to just stop making any more payments and let the unit go into foreclosure. You might face a bunch of collection calls and letters but these will eventually cease.
The last piece of advice is to not pay any of these companies that claim they can get you out of your timeshare. They will take your money and run. If they do do anything, it will be one of the things I mentioned above but you will be paying them thousands of dollars when you can o these things yourself for free.
