We were here on 9/11 which sort of put a damper on
things, but the staff was sympathetic and people
were allowed to stay over (couldn't fly out) for
just the maintenance fee.
We had a balcony view of the pools and ocean from
the main building which was lovely and ate many
meals in the excellent restuarant.
I am not giving 5 stars because the kitchens are
not up to what the US resorts would offer. Some
of the listings on this site claim to have
washer/dryers but we did not. The liviing room
furniture was not comfortable for me and the
lighting discouraged reading.
As for the people selling time shares--if you have
the patience, you can do a lot for free! And it
is interesting to visit the other resorts. (Well,
OK, we bought at Mayan. You can't win them all.)
------ Update:
Looking at the pictures now posted here, I believe the furniture
has been replaced with more cheerful decor. Wonderful! We were
in Puerta Vallarta in November 2006 and stayed next door at
Winston Regina because we had rented out Mayan. We went over
to visit Mayan since we own there and got into a presentation.
(Some people swim and play golf.) Anyhow, we upgraded to
Mayan Regency (whatever that is) but, more important, got into a
program which reduces or eliminates maintenance fees for owners
75 and up. Fantastic! We already qualify! This is an idea that
more resorts should consider.
