Grand Caymanian Resort Reviews & Ratings

Our situation/lifestyle don"t allow for us to use the resort annually. It is a great location for families and the villa is second (top) floor and an end unit for unobstructed ocean views. It is the top and end unit closest to the water. Easy acess to golf , pickleball, snorkeling, stingray island, etc. The island is safe and clean with many high end restaurants.

We have been staying at the Grand Caymanian since 2004. We have seen the ups and downs of this resort but I can honestly say that the pandemic gave the resort the opportunity to update and upgrade everything. The grounds are lushly landscaped and the new restaurant had great food. Our visit was wonderful. The Grand Caymanian is located on the North Sound giving it a quiet and peaceful ambiance. This is a resort that you truly want to rent a car for as the island is safe and begging to be explored. Just remember when driving, stay left, stay left, stay left! :-). Be sure to have a mudslide while relaxing at the pool!

After reading the last negative review I wanted to add mine. I stayed at the Grand Caymanian in Nov 2015. The pool has new cabana style deck chairs, there was no visible mold. Not sure what they are talking about with slanted steps? The pool steps are normal like any other swimming pool I have ever seen. The grounds were clean and landscaping beautiful. The now have flat screens in all units and hotel style bedding. We were told that all of the Jacuzzi tubs are bring taken out and replaced with tiled showers. there was plenty of sand and the volley ball net was fine. They offer jet ski rental and diving on site. The restaurant and bar are very good. There are tennis courts but I did not use them. The beach is not a swimming beach as it is on the north sound and the entry is rocky. The dock is nicely done with furniture and a covered area. I never saw any furniture in the water. The front desk staff and friendly and very helpful.

Just returned from our stay. Last visit was 2019 due to COVID restrictions on travel. Many improvements noted. Restaurant and bar remodeled. Landscaping improved. Building security improved. Pickleball court installed. Unit bathrooms remodeled, including installation of walk-in shower. New furniture in units. New flooring throughout. New TVs. New dock installed. As usual, staff was friendly, helpful and efficient.

Very nice 2-bedroom (king bed in each) ocean view suite sleeps 6 (queen pullout bed in living room). Resort is in a nice location, kept well, a very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent restaurant on site.

Haven't been there since covid-19 but they have made many upgrades. The grounds and units a well maintained. Great for a family vacation.

I think "Five Stars" is a fair rating for the Grand Caymanian these days. My wife and I have been going to the Grand Caymanian since 2004 and we've seen steady improvement each year ince that time.

The Grand Caymanian has gone through several changes in ownership and each change has brought substantial improvements.

The famous Seven Mile Beach - and its spectacular sunsets - is a short drive west.

This gives access to the beach without all the hustle and bustle you often hear from the resorts that are located right on the beach.

If you're a morning person, sun-up is equally spectacular from the Grand Cayman's own beach.

If you're a diver, you already know about Grand Cayman island. If you're not a diver, you owe it to yourself to get yourself a mask, snorkel and fins - the view underwater is spectacular.

One of the things we've noticed right from the start is that, owing to a historical very stable government, Grand Cayman Island has no panhandlers whatsoever like you typically encounter on many destinations in the Caribbean. We have slways felt very secure anywhere on the island and especially so at the resort.

This will be our tenth year visiting the Grand Caymanian and it just gets better and better each time.

A clean, quiet and beautiful resort on the North Sound about 1 mile from the busy 7 mile beach. I have been staying at this resort for over 15 years, and I am always amazed by how pleasant it is and how helpful and friendly the staff is. It's so nice to have a full kitchen, laundry facilities and ocean view balconies! Also, unlike many hotel-based restaurants, the restaurant on the premises here serves some very delicious food! It's helpful to have a car with which to explore the island but the hotel does offer a free shuttle to 7-mile beach. An affordable resort option for enjoying Grand Cayman!

The staff are like family. The property is very clean and safe. They have music entertainment, lawn games, boats to Stingray City and snorkel tours and an amazing restaurant. In an upscale neighborhood, on the North sound golf course.

Grand Villas are wonderful to use - the view of the bay is outstanding. Staff is wonderful and food at the onsite restaurant is very good. Lots of fun things to visit on the island. I can recommend a great guide for tours.

Unfortunately travelling has become difficult for us. We have been going to this resort for about 18 years. Since this is a lock off unit we love the ability to trade or use a studio or a one bedroom suite separately. The location on the North Sound is beautiful and quiet with well landscaped grounds. All of the staff have always been friendly and helpful. On site amenities include a restaurant, water sports vendor with stingray city/snorkeling tours from resort dock and pickleball court. There is easy access to golf. The beds and linens are comfy. Grand Cayman is a safe and clean island with many restaurants and ample shopping.

Just returned from Grand Caymanian. We had an excellent time, except for the construction of the new wing which is 15' away from the pool and extremely noisy starting early in the morning. The Blue Iguana restaurant on site is very unassuming but surprising fantastic. We were travelling with my sister who is a chef and she was very pleasantly surprised. Try the Tuna Sashimi which will knock your socks off. One area of the resort which needs work is the beach which has very little sand, mostly coral shelf, but more importantly is full of broken glass and nails from the first phase of construction and will probably worsen with the new wing going up. It need to be thoroughly rehabbed. The on site dive shop was ok. The dive masters were great, the equipment was fine but the boats could use some upgrading and one day they were an hour late picking up at the hotel and only came after several phone calls. To do it over again, I would have used Red Sail which we had used on an earlier trip and they were much more professional. The units were very nicely furnished and the staff had a great attitude and were very helpful. The shuttle service at the hotel into town was not free. When we checked out we discovered that when we used it to go to town they charged us $20 each way, which is pretty much the same as a private taxi would have been. If you're travelling with kid's (or not) make sure you go to Bosun's Bay (the old turtle farm) which is fantastic. Then walk across the street to the Cracked Conch for sunset drinks and dinner. There is diving/snorkling right off the restaurant dock. Papardello is a great italian place built out over the water in a bird sanctuary...very close to the resort, which is above 7 mile beach.

Rooms are immaculate and the staff is so helpful. Had a wonderful time and will return again and again.

So this is our first time to Grand Cayman to stay not on a cruise. We picked the Grand Caymanian because everything was booked for the time we needed to go. Let me just say this would not be my first through tenth choice. If this is a timeshare if I were an owner I would be pissed! I have seen zero staff on the pool deck at any given time. There are weeds growing out of the pool deck, mold along the pool edge. The stairs to get into the pool are slanted downward so you just about fall in. The deck chairs are dated and most covered in bird poop with no one around to clean them. At one point someone must've started to empty the trash but stopped and left the trash can lid in the bushes. Our room is nice but dated. I think every shower needs to be gutted and redone. Take out the jacuzzi tubs no one uses them anymore! A nice stand up walk in shower would be ideal. Back to the pool it would be nice if there was a hot tub. The food in the restaurant on the other hand is very good. The Cobb salad is amazing as is just about everything else. The public areas are ok, but no diamond in the rough. The beach, well I would not call it a beach. There is no sand, and no way to ease into the water. The seaweed is probably two feet deep and a good ten feet from shore to water. They should not advertise a beach. There is an ok pier to walk out, but again there is deck furniture in the water that either blew in or were thrown in, but no one seems to notice. The beach volleyball net is falling down and you should wear sneakers as there is no sand. Don't dive to make a play! There is a well dressed woman that walks around each day, but I guess it meets her standards. You can rent jet skis right here, but I don't know how much they are. All in all I would not stay here again, and like I said if you're an owner here, you're getting ripped off

We were supposed to travel to The Grand Caymanian 11/8/08-11/15/08 but several days prior to our arrival we became aware of a tropical depression that formed off on Central America, which quickly became a tropical storm (Paloma). It was projected to become a hurricane, with the Cayman Islands in it's path. On Thursday morning, two days before our scheduled arrival ,we be called The Grand Caymanian to talk to someone about our reservations and what we should do if we were unable to get there. We were told no one was available in reservations but at the moment they resort remained open. We were concerned because earlier in the season people were forced to leave early as the resort was shut in anticipation of another hurricane. By Friday morning Paloma was a full-blown hurricane and gaining strength, with the Cayman Islands straight in its path. We called the resort again. We were told no one was there to talk to us as the island was being shut down. We would have to call back on Saturday, the morning we were supposed to leave. Since we had a two-hour drive to the airport and a 6 AM flight, trying to get anyone before we left was impossible. Since we were traveling with friends who had a child, we were very concerned about arriving, only to find the resort shut or unable to accommodate guests. Our friends had reserved a first-floor room so we were concerned abut these being flooded out, as reports we received via a friend of a friend, who was currently on the island, said flooding was already occurring and people were either trying to leave the island or were being moved to higher floors at their resorts or shelters. We moved our flights back one day, but despite several attempts on Saturday to reach the resort, we had no success. We ended up cancelling altogether. We still could not reach the resort on Sunday. We proceeded to e-mail the resort to not only inform them we weren't coming but also state our displeasure with the lack of information and accessibility of staff to deal with incoming guests. We received no reply after 10 days so we sent another e-mail. The short reply did not address any of our issues nor did it offer any apologies. We proceeded to send an email, as well as send a letter via regular mail to the owner of The Grand Caymanian, Theresa Foster. We have never received so much as an acknowlegement to our correspondence nor a reply from her. I am totally amazed that in this economy, when people are simply eliminating travel, that any hotel or resort wouldn't be bending oover backwards to keep guests happy, especially repeat customers (we had stayed there twice previously), but especially a resort who is in the process of building 52 new units that they want people to purchase at a price of upwards of $650K !!!!! Needless to say, we will not be returning there.
