This resort is quiet, has very kind and helpful staff, and provides a perfect location to visit and experience the entire island of Hawaii. I've been to most of the Hawaiian Islands and this island and this location is my favorite.

We just returned from a week (2/17 - 2/24/07) at MLV. We rented a 2 bedroom/2 bath unit through RedWeek. We had a very good experience with the transaction. We had a great time in Hawaii. The resort itself is nice, but lacking some amenities that would have made it nicer.

The unit itself was very large and very nice. It is 2 stories, with the bedrooms downstairs and the living area upstairs. The kitchen was well equipped. The coffee maker was broken, but a call to the front desk had us a brand new one in less than 10 minutes. The beds were comfortable. The unit was clean and well stocked. There were plenty of towels, extra pillows, blankets, etc. There was a lanai on each floor that had a nice view of the grounds. The unit had central air conditioning and it worked great. We had a midweek cleaning with fresh towels and sheets. Overall, we were very pleased with the unit.

The grounds are beautiful and well cared for.

The staff was friendly and very helpful.

There are 8 swimming pools and hot tubs. They are well cared for but hardly ever used. If you want a pool or hot tub all to yourself, 98% of the time it is yours.

If you like to golf, the golf course is right next door. It is a beautiful course that is right on the ocean.

    Aloha,

My husband and I own at Wyndham Mauna Loa Village and have stayed there several times. Our last trip there was November 2008 and the unit had been totally renovated and was very clean and tastefully decorated. The staff have always been friendly and accommodating.

Our unit had 2 bedrooms (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs)and 3 full bathrooms (2 up and 1 down). The 2 bedroom units are extremely spacious for Hawaii (I think nearly 1400 sq. feet). I don't know why the 3 full bathrooms are not mentioned in the resort's description. Our entire top floor was mostly windows facing the golf course with a very large lanai and beautiful tropical view. The downstairs bedroom also has a lanai area with sliding glass doors. There is a lot of privacy for 2 couples.

The grounds are immaculate and very lush with tropical plants. There are a lot of pools and hot tubs and they have never been crowded when I was there. In fact, most times my husband and I were the only ones using the hot tub at night. It is very serene and quiet and feels more like what it would be like living in a townhouse in Hawaii, not just visiting.

You can walk to the Sheraton for restaurants and to watch the manta rays at night. Keauhou Bay is also adjacent to the Sheraton. Keauhou shopping complex is about 1/2 mile away up on the hillside with restaurants, a movie theatre and large grocery store and ocean views. This shopping center is used more by locals than tourists as much of the surrounding neighborhood has upscale condos and homes. It is also a short drive to Kailua-Kona where restaurants, shopping and nightlife abound. The area is great for walking and jogging too. It feels very safe.

Lastly, Keauhou and Kailua-Kona have some of the best weather in the islands, especially in the winter months for those of you wishing to escape cold winters. It is much less windy and rainy than some other locations. I lived in Hawaii on Oahu and the Big Island for 20 years and have visited most locations on Kauai and Maui too, so I am familiar with what the better locations and timeshares are. Mauna Loa is one of my top picks.

    Mahalo and Enjoy!

This unit is a town house (an upper floor with living area, kitchen, and 1st bedroom). Beautiful views of the grounds. The bottom floor has the 2nd bedroom and bathroom. The two king beds are great for couples vacationing together. Covered parking in a parking garage. Great for tennis, pickleball, and golfers. Shopping area just 1.5 miles away.

This is a great resort near Keauhou Bay for anyone who doesn't need the hustle + bustle of a full scale hotel resort (or the high prices). Each building has just 5 units (2 bed each). It's easy to visit with family + friends and really relax. The Sheraton is walking distance for entertainment, and Keauhou Bay provides access to snorkeling cruises and swimming. The full kitchen makes it easy to do as much or as little food prep as you choose. And there are some great restaurants nearby as well as in Kona town. And you'll be close to the Kona Ironman on the 27th. Just $425 per night for 6 people in a 2 bedroom unit with a sofa bed. Units are approximately 1600+ sq ft. and lanais.

We stay every year - gorgeous property very close to the golf course. Grounds are lush and green and quiet. Perfect place during Ironman because you can get away from the crowds there. 8 pools and we almost never have to share the hot tubs with anyone when we go. The rooms are large and well appointed, with everything you need in the kitchen to cook if you wish (except the groceries!). Lots and lots of windows, near enough to the ocean that you get the breezes at night. AND ... underground parking :) The pictures really do not do it justice. Its gorgeous!

Rci exchange into a 2 bedroom on the golf course. Some units have been remodeled and updating. Resort is updating 26/year we were told. We took an older model over a remodel due to the location. Building 8, unit 52. Unit was clean, yet dated. Well stocked. Good a/c. Large rooms and a lot of windows. Grounds beautiful and lush. Pools are small and need refurbishment. Some hot tubs were just warm. Staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Quiet and peaceful stay. Offered a timeshare presentation. We turned it down and they did not hassle us. 1 bedrooms have larger balconies than the 2 bedrooms. Looked like a 50 percent occupancy in early November. Overall a nice stay.

This is a hidden gem off the "beaten path." As one reviewer stated it is indeed like staying in a townhome and not a hotel rental unit. It is quiet and serene. It is tropical and lush. If they were for sale, I would buy one in an instant! We have owned at Mauna Loa for the past 4 years and go there every year - hey why not, the rent as they say "is paid." I was quite leery about buying a timeshare sight unseen - let me tell you, the pictures understate its beauty and quality. And....because it is 1/4 mile from the ocean on the golf course you probably won't need the A/C on at night although the days can get warm (but then that's Hawaii). Go there...you'll love it! We do.

Frankly, I am always curious how there can be one bad review amongst a sea of good reviews for the same resort. We've stayed here, and it was nothing short of fabulous. Housekeeping was immaculate. There was no evidence of any maintenance problems at all.

The resort is very quiet, and although there don't seem to be a lot of the planned activities that other mega-resorts have, who goes to Hawaii to sit around the resort and weave baskets anyway? The Big Island has so much to offer, we didn't care that there wasn't a lot of activities.

The buildings are set up in small groups, and pools and grills are interspersed among the groups, so you might have to walk a short distance to use them. Parking is centralized, so you also have to walk from your car. However, this means you don't have to listen to the neighbors drive in and slam their doors at 2 am, either.

All in all, a really nice place to use as a home base for exploring. You will need a rental car to enjoy the island. Also...this is not located in downtown Kailua-Kona, so you can't just stumble out your front door and be at the nightclub, but this also means the resort is quieter than others in Kona.

I loved this place so much, I've picked up a week on the resale market, so I can go back any year I want to.

We own and stayed at this resort Spring of 2006. Our unit was in excellent condition. Maybe dsmith should have complained and asked for another unit. The beds were very comfortable with nice new bedspreads. The carpets and furniture were attractive, and a stocked kitchen. We liked the lanai overlooking the pool and jacuzzi. This resort is quiet, away from all the crowds and noise. If your looking for R and R this is the place. The staff was very friendly. They had sand chairs and floats to loan for a beach day. To get to a nice beach area is a drive. It's a nice excuse to get out for the day. On the way back to the resort we'd pick up dinner to cook on the grill or just get take out. Then return to peace and quiet. Town and restaurants are a short drive. We enjoyed our stay at the Mauna Loa. We will return again.

The 2 bedroom units are bright, airy and spacious, with a large living room. The units are currently being slowly renovated without noise, dust or interfering with the enjoyment of the resort.

This resort is far from the hectic and crowded Kailua-Kona town.

This is our home resort and we've stayed here many times, always a relaxing time for us.

My husband and I stayed here in December 2004 and loved every minute. The staff was great and the unit was perfect. Bright and spacious. The pool was right outside our patio door, but was never crowded or noisy. Close enough to shopping and dining, but without all the crowds. We would go back in a heartbeat. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

This is a great place to stay. Starting with the great staff in the front office to the nice big units. Everything was very nice and roomy and tastfully decorated. If you like golf look out the window. If you like the ocean look on the other side of the golf course. The activity center staff was very helpful also. There is a mall about a half mile away so that was real handy too. There is a swimming pool for about every 6 units or so, so they were never crowded. It is a few miles from the center of town so it was nice and quiet. You can't go wrong here.

We exchanged for 1 week at this location in mid December 2003. The resort was very quiet, very spacious units and the layout of bedrooms downstairs & living/dining upstairs was very enjoyable. The weather at this location is simply beautiful and the staff was helpful in arranging various tours. We think you too will enjoy this jem on the Western shores of the Big Island!
