Visited Aug. 7, 2004 for 1 week under Interval
Int'l. exchange although resort is now under RCI.
Wonderful as long as you don't need a lot of space
in the studio or 1 bedroom units = never saw
inside a 2 bdr unit. Our 1 bdr had NO privacy, as
it is on an open balconey overlooking the living
room. Size aside, the unit was perfectly clean and
completely redone very recently; everything worked
great. The choice of colors was perfect for a
carribbean setting.
The location and the view (for every single unit!)
was spectacular. The beach was right there and one
of the best hotel beaches on the island; I know,
because I have timeshared there, and 12 other
carribbean islands, since 1980. None of the other
expensive timeshares or hotels have as nice a
beach: most have rocky bottoms, slimy seaweed, or
oily water. Not at Bluebeards Beach Resort, where
it is never crowded, pleny of beacj chairs and
really great hammocks in the shade. There is a
small lagoon at the right side of the beach, where
weddings often take place (we were invited to one
- beautiful at sunset), and 1 visit will tell you
why. This is one of the most serene relaxing place
I have ever been.
The swim up and sit pool bar is great, and serves
good lunches as well. The bartender, like all of
the staff at the resort, was great - helpful, and
fun. Food at the restaraunt in the mornings and
evenings was really good, and inexpensive as
island restaraunts go. Occaisional entertainment
was fun, brought in from sister resorts
Bluebeard;s Castle and/or Elysian Resort. I
checked them both out and found those resorts
extremely lacking. Beach at Elysian isn't worth
the free trip, and the Castle is useless:
restaraunt closes for a month at a time, and you
cannot actually eneter the castle tower that is so
heavily promoted. Stick to the Beach resort and be
sure to go to Magen's Bay earlier in your stay, as
you will definitely want to go back. Magen's may
be busy, but it is HUGE, so you can find a place
that is not crowded. This is the most calm and
serene ocean that you are likely to ever find -
anywhere in the world. The food at the beach stand
has proven to be way, way above average for over
20 years. The pizza and chicken are particulalry
good - and this is the cheapest edible food on the
island. Other great beaches are Coki point and
Trunk Bay on St. John, easily accessable for a day
via the very inexpensive ferry at Red Hook, and a
short open air taxi ride on St. John - the views
on the way to Trunk Bay are fabulous. The
snorkeling at Trunck Bay is one of world's best,
right on shore.
I will go back to Bluebeard's Beach Club, if I can
get a 2 bdr unit, but if you are a couple, the
small units are actually just fine. Good luck.
My advice on any island is to rent a car for the
week. Check out other beaches, including the ones
at timeshares and hotels, thay all allow you open
access, and out of season no one will care if you
use the loungers, pools, etc. Of course
restaraunts GLADLY accept anyone.
