I very much enjoyed my stays at the Park Royal. I don't need a fancy lobby. I just want a spotlessly clean, newly renovated room with a balcony a few steps away from the beach and in the vicinity of all manner of shopping, restaurants, etc. The Park Royal has been my go to place to get all of that and more.
Further south you can forget about parking. Nothing on the street and daily valet parking (always the "no in and out" type) is expensive. But here you can park on the street. There's also a large lot diagonally across the street at the Miami Beach Rowing Club as well as at beachfront Allison Park to afford you ample low cost "$1 per hour between 8 am and 6 pm" (free all other times) parking options. When you're driving, obviously you don't need to pay. Pay via your cell phone only when you're parked.
Right now, all of Miami public transportation is free including the Miami Airport to Miami Beach bus. The Park Royal is at 65th and you can either walk to Denny's at 71st or the Publix Supermarket at 69th or simply hop on the ever-present local buses carrying you to and fro a few blocks. You can't have it any easier.
The staff at the Park Royal are friendly, accommodating, perfect hosts.
During Covid, they've withdrawn all cooking/eating materials because of the risk of cross-transmission (or however they expressed it). So if you want to make use of the stovetops/microwave, pack your cooking/eating utensils.
