A seemingly honest real estate agent for timeshares!
Below is an exactly quoted answer from an email I sent a real estate agent to sell our NM timeshare.
Wow! Someone that seems honest and gave a straightforward answer-how refreshing! Even though she could not help us, she might be able to help someone out in Utah or West-type ski timeshares, so I pass this along in the spirit of helping others out (I have no knowledge of this person, except by this email):
Hello, Thank you for your email message about your timeshare property. Unfortunately, I am probably not the best person to market this for you. I am located in Utah and mostly specialize in Western USA and ski timeshares and not much of an expert in the timeshare market in New Mexico. I do have a few suggestions for you: You should become a member of TUG (Timeshare Users Group). They are located at www.tug2.net. This site is logging over 90,000 hits a week--membership costs $15.00 and that includes one free classified ad. The ads run for 3 months and usually cost $10.00. I have placed over 12 ads in the last few months and have sold 8 of them. If you mention my name (Shelley Preece with TransAction Realty as a referral) when becoming a member, I will receive a $3.00 credit. Fern Modena, a moderator on TUG, has in the past sponsored a web site that lists resale companies. Currently, she is not updating her site so some of the links may not be active or accurate. You may be able to find a resale company that will specialize more in the New Mexico timeshare market. She does not endorse these resale companies, so you will have to do your own research if you choose to use one of these companies. You can find those resale company links at www.geocities.com/fmodena/xresales.html . I have also had very good success advertising listings at www.myresortnetwork.com. There is a charge ($14.00 to $20.00) for advertising at this site. I have also had good success advertising at www.redweek.com . There is a $10.00 charge for advertising at this site. Lastly, and most importantly, do not fall victim to the resale companies that charge any money up-front...sign up fee, listing fee, processing fee, appraisal fee etc. No matter what they call it...the result is the same. You give them your credit card number and they will tell you what you want to hear. Please be extra vigilant if you do place an ad on the internet this will certainly bring the scam companies out of the woodwork and direct them right towards you. Good luck to you and please let me know if I can help in any way. Sincerely, Shelley C. Preece, Agent

Redweek gets over 10,000 hits a day from people looking to buy, sell, rent (and now exchange) timeshares. All of your informant's information is inaccurate as Fern is no longer a moderator at Tug. She posts from time to time there, but she is no longer affiliated with Tug as a moderator or administrator.
Redweek advertises this site in numerous venues including newspaper and magazine ads. They are the #1 buying, selling and rental site on the internet, or anywhere else for that matter, and they have now started an exchange company that, I believe, will start a revolution in the exchange industry.

je38 quotes some correspondence, BUT........
It would be far more helpful and/or informative if you provided a contact mechanism for Ms. Preece (a street or mail address, an e-mail address, phone number ---something more than just the person's name (in case someone else wanted to contact this individual). Just a suggestion.........

Read the first message. Note Transaction Realty. Put that in google and the first return should be the agency
BTW..Ferns listings updated by Dave are still on TUG....and includes Redweek

Kekouri stated, in pertinent quoted part: >> BTW..Ferns listings updated by Dave are still on TUG....and includes Redweek[<<
Sorry to be dense, but I have no idea at all to whom (or to what) this portion of your post refers (Fern? listings? Dave?).
Edit -- sorry for my brief puzzlement; your cited references are clearly to another post (which was not mine) so I was momentarily a bit confused.......

I purchases a resale week from Shelley, and she is exactly as stated - an honest, reputable agent. I talked to many agents and sellers, and found that everyone had a gimmick. Including some supposed "private sellers." Shelley was incredible, and I have referred her a couple of times since. You get no nonsense or hype, as you see with some companies, people or web-sites. She is extremely knowledgeable, and her documenation and follow-through is the best. I am a licensed real estate agent in my home state, and Shelley is definitely top drawer. She has many listings, and will work with you if possible, or offer great suggestions if she can't help. The industry needs more people like Shelley, rather than the nonsense and hype you see in many sites.

......But still no direct contact info provided......

But the question is, does she charge an upfront fee of any kind? If so, she can't be recommended here. If not, she can be added to 'no upfront fee resale companies' listed in the Buying, Selling and Renting section. The key word is UPFRONT FEE
jasperf wrote:Her company name is listed in this string, so a search would have provided the info. Not sure if this site will allow, yet Shelley is with TransAction Realty at 801.966.2100 or 800.867.5336, web = transactionrealty.com...good luck.

To all of those who responded positively-good going. I'm glad you found something interesting in my posting.
I tried to provide some positive information and some of those who responded were, typically, negative and lazy.
Find your own info-I was merely clearing out old emails and thought to, perhaps, help a few people. If you're not interested, just delete or don't read. It's really that simple.
Jesh! Get a life!

Re: >> removed contact information - marty8084<<
Why did you do this ??? This person was first referenced by RedWeek members; she was not just placing an independent ad. Personally, I think it was entirely inappropriate and completely unnecessary for you to have unilaterally removed her contact info. With all due respect, would your attentions and energies not be much better spent moving posts placed in completely incorrect forums?

H shelley, It's great to see that there are some people who are sincere and honest when it comes to selling timeshares.
I believe I'm in a no win situation with a "universal lease" at Resort Holdings International,in mexico.
I purchased 4 units at Alcapolca,at the Excalibur Hotel and had a third party management company rent them.
I believe also that I have been scamed,as I have not received any income in over a year, and can not get phone calls answered or returned..Do you know of anyone who can give me some guidence on how to get a response or help trying to find out if I acyually own this property...I have a contract, but it may not be worth the paper it's written on.
sincerely, sam fazzalore

There you have it. She really is great if you are looking to do business. I only know her from my transaction, yet highly recommend her if you are looking to do business on the buying or selling end. No nonsense, honesty, well informed. And she won't get wrapped into any non-relevant stuff. I will buy and sell with Shelley in the future.

Just curious how you found her.

Marty -
I was actually looking for resales, and did never-ending google searches under anything that I thought could lead me to the right place. I hit all of the sites regularly discussed, and e-bay and such. I made a couple of offers on TSs, and found the "deals" listed were always "sold," yet you could buy something "similar" for a lot more. As you may have learned, there are a lot of shell games / scams in this business.
Well, Shelley had a listing I was interested in and she seemed very knowledgeable, upfront, and honest. Through multiple conversations, I trusted she was for real and did the deal. She had unbelievable follow-thu, let me know everything going on, knew the people at the company that had right-of-first-refusal. She is simply great at what she does based on this experience - and I have dealt with the opposite so want people to know about her and her company.
I talked to about 6 to 8 other people that had units I could have bought, yet they just didn't seem completely honest. There seemed like they were holding back, or would trickle details to you. I own a few businesses and like to deal up front, face value, so Shelley was perfect.
Good luck - and again, the simple answer - multiple internet searches.
