Seller notes: You can own the best view on Maui and visit paradise every other year with this week at the Hono Koa! Our Koa unit is direct oceanfront with views of Lanai and Molokai and sunsets every night that will take your breath away! You can also watch happy sea turtles swim by every day on their way around the island. This is truly a hidden gem in Honokowai, as we have stayed here for over 10 years and own three other weeks.

The KOA units at the Hono Koa are the 4 units directly across from the ocean, and with this purchase of our week you will only rent a Koa unit each time. Oceanfront guaranteed!

Each oceanfront unit features two bedrooms (one king and one with two twins that can be made into a king by request) two full bathrooms and a full kitchen. There is also a queen size sofa bed in the living room and a washer/dryer in the unit as well The season for this listing is January during even years, we will pay the maintenance fees for 2026; buyer usage begins January 2026 as well.

Buyer to pay all other closing costs and fees, and income taxes for 2026 that will be due in fall 2026.

The lanais at our Koa unit are extremely close to the water….we have tossed beers to our kids from the balcony! The surf is constant and will loll you to sleep every night. Wonderful!

The Koa units received an nice update in 2025, with new cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms, new island style furniture, new carpet and blinds.

There’s an excellent pool and hot tub, along with barbecues to grill your favorite seafood or steaks for dinner!

We love Hono Koa and will continue to visit for two weeks every year; we are selling this every other year week as we have other weeks for ourselves.

  • Hono Koa Resort

    Honokowai, Hawaii

Located in prime territory on West Maui, the Hono Koa Resort offers a peaceful, quiet experience on one of Maui's most coveted beaches. Spend your mornings at the Hono Koa Resort relaxing by the swimming pool, or take a dip in the ultra-soothing whirlpool hot tub. The resort also offers many scheduled activities, including lauhala bracelet making, flower lei making, and poolside hula dancing.

This oceanfront resort is composed of twenty-eight two-bedroom, two-bathroom units. Each unit sleeps six and features a king bed in the master bedroom, two twin beds in the guest bedroom, a queen sleeper sofa in the living area, a fully equipped kitchen, and private lanai. Natural woods, subdued tropical tones and Hawaiian prints make lounging in your room every bit as relaxing as lounging on the beach!

While on Maui, be sure to visit Haleakala, the island's dormant volcano which rises more than 10,000 feet above sea level. Black Rock on Ka'anapali Beach is your go-to for prime snorkeling and scuba diving. Five championship golf courses nearby provide a haven for avid golfers, while the quaint town of Lahaina offers an abundance of shopping, dining and entertainment!

We own only the Koa units, which are oceanfront and our lanai is parallel to the water. We always stay Feb-March during whale season and sit on the lanai to take in the gorgeous view and watch whales. The lanai is less than 40 feet from the water, and we get to see lots of turtles and even spinner dolphins from our lanai. Be sure to take your binoculars.

It's an ordinary resort, I wouldn't call it fancy. I have stayed at the Westin via exchange, and we even had a slight ocean view, but not one of the Westin units is 40 feet from the water. But Westin is fancy, and I do enjoy the Heavenly Beds, but this place has comfortable beds, not heavenly.

These units at Hono Koa are especially wonderful because there are only four of them that are oceanfront. The unit has 2 bedrooms on the interior and two bathrooms. There is a washer/dryer off of the second bedroom, actually in the 2nd bathroom. It heats that bathroom up pretty well, and since the units have no AC, I do laundry early to keep that bathroom cooler.

The sun hits at about 2-3 PM and really warms it up in the Koa units. The units face west for beautiful, not-to-be-missed sunsets every night, well, almost every night. Storms can come in and block the views of Molokai and Lanai'i.

The kitchen is great, has everything you need, including a crockpot.

I love Hono Koa and especially love our stellar views from every window that faces the ocean. There are literally five sliding door windows that open to the ocean breezes early in the day. We open up every one and let the cool air in. The views are even visible from the kitchen.

There are bar-height tables on the lanai to view the ocean over the railing each day. We spend at least five hours on the lanai in the morning, and another two hours at night.

The staff onsite is great. They really care about your needs. They will bring a hand mixer or any other cooking utensil you need during your stay. They want good reviews like this one, and they are willing to really show you the spirit or Ohana (family) and Aloha.

Koa units are the best units on the property. Great ocean front, expansive view! We have owned here for 20 years. The Koa units are great. Only 4 Koa units, one on each floor. Great for whale watching, best place to be for sunset, great breeze and lots of doors so you can enjoy the breeze and sound of surf. Pictures here are NOT of the Koa units. Their layout and view are different-all oven front-facing. We are getting too old to travel to Hawaii and have no one to leave this to.

We own a Hala unit and have been going to Maui, staying at the Hono Koa Resort since 2009. It is a perfect place for a family get away, located just north of Kaanapali Beach. It is ocean front but there is no beach (rock wall to break the waves, which are nice to hear at night as you go to sleep). It is a small complex with 27 two bedroom, two bath, full kitchen rental units with w/d that sleep 6 (4 comfortably in 2 bedrooms). The units are comfortable and the kitchen is stocked with utensils for cooking and eating. It is about 1.5 blocks from a farmers market and a Boss Frogs for renting snorkel equipment, as well as an ABC store and large grocery outlet. The Hono Koa Resort has just put in a new elevator and updated a lot of the rooms. There is a decent size pool, jacuzzi spa, multiple pool loungers, chairs and two grills on property for grilling food. There is no restaurant or bar but you are very close to multiple places to eat. They are also located near several great beaches including Kaanapali, Napili, Kapalua and Fleming. The Hono Koa Resort is situated at an angle back from the ocean so that all units have an ocean view, some better than others. The KOA units are direct ocean front (best view), then the HALA units are the next 3 stores back from the front (2nd best views) and the PALM units are the last 3 stories back (3rd best views). The management is very friendly and willing to help with any issues that might arise. Overall, an excellent place to stay. PS: If you are looking for a Hyatt, Marriott or Westin style luxury timeshare lodging, this is not the place for you. Otherwise, it is a great, affordable place in Maui.

We have stayed at Hono Koa several times, the last in August 2012. We have had delightful stays each time. The units are spacious with granite countertops, tile floors, ceiling fans, and full kitchens. The lanais are spacious with table and chairs and a great view of Molokai. We eat almost every breakfast on the lanai as well as frequent dinners. The staff keeps the property clean and the grounds well groomed. The pool and hot tub are always sparkling. there are two or three gas grills by the pool that we have used a number of times for steaks and fresh fish. There is no beach immediately in front of the property, but swimming and snorkeling are great. There is beach available a short walk in either direction. Since all Hawaiian beaches are public they are all usable.

I read a couple unfavorable reviews. The one complaining about air-conditioning is typical from people not used to Hawaiian condos. Most people depend on the tradewinds and ceiling fans for comfort. We have been going to The Islands for more than 30 years, and only a handful of places we have stayed have had air-conditioning. With windows open on each end of the units they are very comfortable. As far as the review mentioning dirt, garbage, bad smells, missing tiles in the pools, etc., I'm not sure this person is talking about the same resort. In all my trips there I have never seen anything resembling this.

Hono Koa is a low-key family property. I'm in a wheelchair and all the rooms have been accessible, although the bathrooms are not wheelchair equipped. It's in a great location about halfway between Kaanapali and Kapalua. Grocery store and farmers market are within walking distance. The staff is extremely helpful. We will stay there next time we go to Maui.

We LOVED it - we were there in late April 2010, and will go back in 2011. Its clean, comfortable, and "homey". Its not fancy - don't expect fancy. We liked the full kitchen, w/d in-suite, easy in/out and free parking. We LOVED seeing the whales from our balcony, also we LOVED seeing the tons of turles swimming just a few yards from the ocean deck. This property has no beach, but there is a beach within walking distance, also an ABC store, grocery store, farmers market, etc... What else does one need? One drawback, there is no AC - but the ceiling fans (in everyroom) and patio slider doors (2 sets) kept us cool enough.

This is an outstanding resort. Quiet and peaceful but close enough to the action of Whalers Village and Lahina. The rooms were all gutted and remodeled in 2005-2006 with granite countertops, and vanities, new carpeting in the bedrooms and updated or new furniture. The staff is friendly and helpful and more than eager to accomodate special needs if it is within their reach. We've been going back to the Hono Koa for the last seven years and have found it to be a "slice of paradise". We even switched our ownership from another resort to the Hono Koa because when we spend our time there we feel at home!

I don't know where kathyg89 stayed but her description of the Hono Koa is totally NOT accurate. The only way she could have viewed the garbage dumpster is when she walked into the parking lot to get her car. The cleaning crew is outstanding. Any problems are addressed by the staff immediately. All rooms face the ocean or the pool. Some definitely have better views than others with the KOA's having the best with wrap-around oceanfront lanai's. But all guests have access to a fabulous over the water oceanfront deck for some of the best whale watching and sunsets on the island.

I have to wonder about the person that left the response dated Jan 30, 2008 if they were really talking about the Hono Koa? We went there a year and a half ago and LOVED it so much we came back and bought 2 units there. It was SO clean and the units had been gutted and totally remodeled the year before that. The units have granite counters and tile floors and new everything! If you look at all the reviews of this place on EVERY site they are all great. I am really wondering if this lady has the right resort...there's a lot of places that sound alike on Maui with all their vowels! I love this place and plan to go back every year through retirement! I can't imagine someone not loving it here! The KOA units are amazing with their wrap around lanai's and complete oceanfront. You can whale watch right from the deck. The pool area was great, private and hardly used. It was a beautiful place with all the amenities of home.

When you are sleeping in the master bedroom you can hear the waves crashing! The views are magnificent. And the sunsets are really special. The kitchen has everything you need. We like to walk to the farmer's market every day. And it is a nice walk to extend it even further along the ocean strip. The resort has a quiet vibe - sometimes it feels like a private pool and hot tub.
