In 1923, this building came to life as El Fidel Hotel. Fifty years later, the building was purchased by a banking institution and began life anew as the timeshare and vacation rental, Otra Vez en Santa Fe.

The building is holding up very nicely and houses 18 guest rooms of varying size and all uniquely appointed and decorated. The lower floor of the former hotel houses a coffee shop/bookstore, the Otra Vez offices, and a large home decor shop. The guest rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors (9 rooms on each floor). The fire exit info sheet on the inside door gives an outline of a floorplan for each room; the sizes of the rooms are pretty obvious.

The second floor has a generously sized terrace/patio with loads of seating and 2 propane barbeques; there is also direct access to some of the rooms. The third floor has units overlooking the terrace. A small elevator services all three floors and one can get to any of the rooms either by direct access from the hallway or by walking through the terrace.

The kitchens are very well equipped. The rest of the units are nicely done with wood flooring, period pieces, well-maintained furnishings, and loads of fluffy towels. Trash removal and towel replenishment will take place whenever the service request is hung on the knob.

What a lovely property! It is a perfect ten on the location spectrum.

Had a wonderful vacation in a lovely villa!! So blessed to have had opportunity to enjoy this beautiful resort! Would strongly recommend this resort before others in Santa Fe due to its location—so close to all major attractions, restaurants, and shopping!! Security is strong with a coded elevator, and first floor is a lovely bookstore and coffee shop for getting to know the Locals.

5 stars because, at $99 a night for a 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen, I couldn't have asked for anything more. There are 18 condos, all of which seem to be different sizes and with somewhat different furnishings. The interiors can be a little outdated, but everything was clean. We stayed in one of hte largest units, and it was great! I have 3 small children, so extra space is important.

Office personnel were helpful (although some of the office staff didn't seem as knowledgeable about day-to-day operations), and the daily maid service was excellent. Very nice people.

Location is excellent, just 2 blocks from the Plaza, and across the street from a coffee place and several restaurants.

The one drawback is that parking is limited. There are 12 spaces (included 1 Handicapped) for 18 condos and several businesses. We had to park in a pay lot across the street a couple of times. Inconvenient, but (again) for $99 a night, it was worth it.

I didn’t realize Otra Vez en Santa Fe was such a closely held secret! It has long been a favorite destination. There have been improvements and updates to the property since the last posted reviews. An already charming and hospitable location, updates and discoveries have added to the ambiance. The building was originally built as the El Fidel Hotel in 1923. A recent renovation revealed an earlier foundation – the windowless, one room adobe Santa Fe County Jail - that housed Billy the Kid in winter 1880-1881.

The 18 condos are on the 2nd and 3rd floors – the private sun deck / patio offers lovely views. There is no longer a hot tub on the property’s patio, which has opened the deck up quite a bit for lounging, reading or grilling. There is an alcove on the 2nd floor with a lovely borrowing library and computer with printer. Clothes washers and dryers are available. Each unit has a coffee maker.

The iconic independent and locally-owned Santa Fe bookstore, Collected Works, is downstairs and accessible from the condos’ interior. 47 years in business, they offer thousands of book titles, newspapers and ongoing readings and other events. There is comfy fireside seating indoors or outside on their patio and free high speed Wi-Fi. Their coffeehouse features organic, locally-roasted coffee, pastries, light fare and desserts. This is a terrific location. The Plaza is 2 blocks away. Street level retail offerings are diverse. Parking at Otra Vez is limited with each unit receiving a displayable parking permit. There is a municipal parking garage across the street, with metered parking and lots in several locations.

Staff is very responsive – fireplaces are stocked with pinon wood.

Exceptional! Clean, 1-bedroom fully furnished w/fireplace 2 blks from the Plaza. Parking is a potential problem (too few places, too many condos and businesses), but there was an attendant for the building next door who took care of it. No problems. Will definitely be back. What a deal! Stayed 2/24-3/3/07.

This is an exceptionally convenient, comfortable and clean property. Perfect for feeling like you are in someone's well staffed home rather than in an impersonal and cookie cutter timeshare. A little old-fashioned but perfect for the Santa Fe downtown experience.

I love this resort! In addition to being an historic building, it's in a perfect location for really getting to know Santa Fe. Right outside the door there are fabulous shops, galleries and restaurants. The decor is wonderfully southwest (Santa Fe style as they say here). The daily maid service was a real plus, and the resort personnel were friendly and helpful.
