I own here, both the Apartments, and the Villas. I've bought three weeks total so far. Will probably buy another one sometime.
This is a small, intimate resort. If you are expecting a mega resort, with all sorts of activities, that is not what this place is about. The Ocean Club is more like the Corona ads with the two people on the beach... You like that vibe? Then you will love the Ocean Club. You want Marriott/Club Med? Then go to a Marriott/Club Med. Yes, there are a lot of members that love this place as well, and come back year after year, so I guess it might look cliquish at first glance. But are these groups unfriendly? I have not found that at all. As for the staff, I've always found them to be friendly and VERY helpful, caribbean style. Just be friendly to them, OK? You want or need something? Just ask! The rooms are fairly typically sized as far as I can tell compared with other RCI exchanges in the Caribbean. The resort is being renovated in 2011 off season, so the valid issue about old appliances, etc. will soon be history.
One other note... The beach at Cupecoy is constantly changing. Sometimes it is huge, sometimes there is no sand directly in front of the resort. It's usually somewhere in between. That's just the way nature is in these parts. In any case, I have found that there is always a beach within short walking distance. (And while at Cupecoy, make sure you get one of Dany's Rum Runners, they are the BEST.) If you like, go to Mullet or Baie Rouge. But please read the guidebooks so you know about the beaches here.... :-)
Please relax and then enjoy your stay in Sint Maarten/St. Martin and at the Ocean Club!
