I have a timeshare to sell, but is anyone buying in 2021?
Yes! Many areas of the economy are booming right now and travel, including timeshare resales, are certainly benefiting from this shift. If you are ready to move on from your timeshare ownership, this is a good time to try to sell.
To give you some insight into what we're seeing on this front: 2019 was a record year for closings processed by our full-service department. So far in 2021, we have already seen a 43% increase in inquiries and offers on timeshares for sale on the site, compared to the same dates in 2019. That means we are on track for the best year ever for timeshare sales since we first opened our online marketplace in 2002.
Inquiries about points packages make up about 10% of that - especially Marriott Vacation Club points, which showed up on our best-selling timeshares of 2020 list and remain in high demand.
What Are Buyers Interested In?
Looking at the offers sent to resale postings throughout the site, we are seeing the most sales interest in the following regions, in order:
- Florida
- Caribbean (primarily Aruba)
- Hawaii
- California
- Mexico
- South Carolina
- Marriott Vacation Club Points
- Arizona
- Nevada
- Colorado
Of course, those locations roughly align with where we have the most inventory.
There are a few locations that have a lot of sales interest, but very few timeshares for sale. Resale postings at these ten resorts have a higher than average number of inquiries per posting, since there are so few timeshares available. If you own at one of these resorts, there is likely already more demand than supply:
- Laguna Surf Resort; Laguna Beach, CA
- Marriott's Crystal Shores; Marco Island, FL
- The Resort on Cocoa Beach; Cocoa Beach, FL
- Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows; Lake Buena Vista, FL
- Resort Villas by Welk Resorts; Escondido, CA
- Capri by the Sea; San Diego, CA
- Wyndham Bonnet Creek; Lake Buena Vista, FL
- Edgewater Beach Resort; Dennis Port, MA
- Westin St. John Sunset Bay Villas; Cruz Bay, St. John
- Maui Schooner; Kihei, Maui, Hawaii

Compared to our top 10 bestselling timeshares of 2020, there aren't too many surprises.
Don't be discouraged if you don't own one of these top 10 resorts, however. These resorts have the largest number of timeshares for sale, so it makes sense that we are selling more of them. Our team has processed closings at more than 200 other resorts so far in 2021, and with the abnormally high level of resale inquiries, we are staffing up to be able to handle many more closings throughout the rest of the year.
What Should I Know About Selling Right Now?
There are three options for selling your timeshare on RedWeek. Compare your selling options side-by-side and choose the one that's best for you.
Before selling, be sure to do your research - look at what similar weeks are being advertised for (both at your resort and the broader region for similar unit size and timeframes), look at historical selling prices for your resort, and make sure yours is priced competitively. Many companies looking to help you sell your timeshare don't do a price comparison up-front - thinking if you're disappointed in the low sales prices, you won't pay them to advertise it. RedWeek believes in transparency because we want you to have the best possible chance of success. Every full-service resale comes with a market valuation by a real estate professional. We also offer refunds if you aren't happy with your valuation and choose not to sell at the recommended price.
Happy selling!
