We spent a week here in late June of 2004, and
this was our third visit to Los Abrigados. We
are headed back this August and have plans for
MANY more stays into the future!
We go for 2 weeks at a time and always try a
different place the 2nd week - this year it will
be Arroyo Robles - our 1st time at that
timeshare.
At Los Abrigados the grounds, architecture and
landscaping make me feel that I've found my
piece of heaven. It's quiet, reflective and I
can sit at Oak Creek for hours doing hardly
anything at all, which is normally impossible
for me.
Yes! The 1 bedroom units are in dire need of
some major spit and polish, properly working
drawers and a more functional kitchen. I wish
the bar at the pool was open a bit longer and
was more varied. I wish the pool opened at 5am.
But most of all I wish I could live at Los
Abrigados!
As for theft, that should be addressed for sure.
I've lost a few items over the years and it
hurts, it's a personal invasion! About 30 years
ago I was at the Waldorf and someone took my
favorite bracelet, that I had pretty steadily
worn for some 20 years! It wasn't valuable,
except to me for all the memories it held!
I really like the staff, and everyone has their
cranky days - even in public service! Just make
sure you greet them with a huge honest smile!
I have stayed at Orange Lakes, Vistana, Westin
Kierland, Disney and many of the top timeshares.
I have stayed at the J.W. Marriott's Camelback
Inn in Scottsdale, El Conquistador in Tucson,
and many MANY other $400.00 per night
hotels....Sorry, they are in the end just
buildings! BUT MY HEART BELONGS TO LOS
ABRIGADOS, BECAUSE IT LIVES AND BREATHS!!
I have stayed at 3 other newer timeshares in
Sedona that did not charm me much at all, not
the happiness I get at LA!! Even the Enchantment
resort did not give me the warmth, although they
do really shine!
For me it's the calmness of LA that's perhaps
the true winner, wandering over to watch a a
dress rehearsal of the Taming of the Shrew at
Tlaquepaque, sitting by a bubbling fountain
surrounded by flaming red flowers climbing the
adobe walls, wandering back for a drink on the
veranda and reading by the creek until the light
fades away. Getting a little early tennis in
before tea on the balcony.
I can accept the roughness of the rooms for the
beauty that surrounds them is so much more!
I know ILX will get it together eventually, they
must have a sense of the wealth and riches they
have in Los Abrigados! They will be true to it's
heritage in time!
By all means go to the Hyatt Pinion Pointe while
in Sedona if you want a 5 star timeshare, or
Enchantment for a lovely top rated resort, just
leave me here please! ENJOY THE MOMENT - IT ONLY
HAPPENS ONCE!
