We have stayed at National Harbor several times, just recently for a weekend and will be staying again in September for Octoberfest. We live 20 minutes away in Springfield, VA, and like to stay there for long weekends with friends and especially if we are going to a festival where we will be drinking and don't want to drive. At first we were a little disappointed in having only high end shopping and restaurants there and of course the parking fees. The area is greatly improving with restaurants and shopping at all levels with even an outlet mall opening soon! The best thing is that National Harbor is not just for business conventions, but has a lot to offer for families. The parking cost is still annoying for being so far out of the District, but considering the price of rooms and parking in the District of Columbia, it is a bargain. My preference for staying in this area for sightseeing is Wyndham Old Town Alexandria, but it is older and smaller and more difficult to get into. If you can't get this resort, don't hesitate with National Harbor. I would go to the Huntington Metro across the river for sightseeing in the District rather than the station that they recommend on the Maryland side. Also while you are on the Virginia side you can get excellent groceries at Whole Foods on Van Dorn to cook in your unit. There is more to do in National Harbor now, so it's more fun to be in the area. The units are lovely and we have found recently that the staff is much nicer.

We have had exactly same experiences as jamesst1!! We did our 1st ever family reunion at NH using 3 2BR units, for Rolling Thunder, May2010. We too live in NoVA, about 30min away. Our family came in from NC and WV, and as far away as CA, however. My husband visited the resort THREE (3) times prior to our stay to make sure everything would be perfect, so to speak, all units on same floor, etc., and to register his handicapped accessibility needs.

When we arrived to check in, there was a crowd, it was noisy... Why you ask? Most folks were upset with a variety of things, tempers flared, hence the high noise level. E.g., a family with 2 motorcycles [and a car][they drove down from Maine!] were told that, unlike every other resort we've stayed at, their bikes had to be parked in separate spaces [rather than easily in one space] at $10per day per bike [plus the car, of course]. Read what James has to say below and it's just DITTO for us and our family: surly staff, terrible treatment by manager, unclean rooms esp. one bathroom, missing towels and kitchen items, expensive restaurants, ...the whole bit!!

They even called my husband a liar, basically, said they had no record of him coming in ahead of time. AND, when we called corporate to complain, Platinum VIP ha!!, we were told it would take 72hrs to 'investigate' and our only immediate recourse was to abandon our reservations. Oh, and our points would NOT be returned to us. My husband was so upset he refused to stay there, messing up the entire family reunion experience. He drove in from NoVA every day instead. And part of our family stayed in their motor home at Andrews AFB... I don't think we will EVER go back there again.

Club Wyndham National Harbor reviews highlight its fantastic, walkable location near dining/shopping, excellent amenities (pools, fitness center, game rooms), clean/spacious suites with kitchens, and praised staff service, though some users encounter aggressive timeshare sales tactics, so visitors should be aware of potential high-pressure presentations.

A Wonderful Christmas Tradition at Club Wyndham National Harbor

Our family visits Club Wyndham National Harbor almost every Christmas season, and it has truly become one of our favorite holiday traditions. The resort is consistently clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The suites are spacious and feel like a home away from home, which makes traveling around the holidays so much easier.

The location is perfect—right in the heart of National Harbor with easy access to the waterfront, restaurants, shops, and festive seasonal activities. Staff members have always been friendly, helpful, and attentive during each of our stays.

We always have a fabulous time and look forward to returning year after year. Highly recommended for families looking for a relaxing and memorable holiday getaway.
